Before the admins step in, play nicely boys. Owning an 8 or not doesn't mean one can't play nicely.

And if you could read the Japanese on Greddy's site you'd know why it was so long. Take a look at RE's dyno and one for K&N... what do you see? How about a few of the other short arm intakes? Sometimes you see no gain or even a loss at low to mid-rpm with some decent gain at the top-end. Greddy developed this the longer arm for not only cooler air, but resonance tuning... check out the other thread with some explanations about this by Rotarygod...

Greddy claims that their intake creates improvements in the low-mid rpm range and little on the top-end. As I was explaining... this is the total opposite of what we see with the short-arm intakes.

well i always thought that one would be welcomed here, with a 8 or not. And because sometimes a outside opinion is nice but guess not. I was considering getting a rx-8 in addition to my other cars, but it seems at least there are some nice flamers on here. Oh Well.

But thanks for that explanation and with any performance mods there are always some drawbacks, and from what i've read that the 8 is not so much on the low end but more to mid and upper end of the scale, therefore if what you say is correct then it would only enhance the power delivery at the end and make 9000 rpm feel only better.

As long as you're not trolling, flaming, etc. you are welcome to the forum. I'm still relatively new, but I have already met many great people and gotten a lot of good info which has only confirmed my next car purchase to be an 8.

I'll bet you flunked physics. The reason water is harder to suck up a long straw is the same reason it takes a lot of power to pump water up a tall hill. Its that gravity thing and the fact that water is relatively dense. Water is especially dense when compared to air. Because the density of air is so low, and the pipe is relatively short, the length of the pipe is not going to matter much.

The problem with the pipe would be its diameter (if it is too small to support the intake needs of the motor) or if it had lots of tight bends in it. Even air loses energy (momentum) going around bends. :D :D :D
