It is so hard to guess what the system will sound like unless you hear it in person. I did the same thing when I was shopping my exhaust but because of recording levels and digital compression it never sounds the same. Hit the local RX groups so you can hear some of theirs, that helped me pick. Also you are adding a mid pipe which will make it even harder to tell.

I had the exoticspeed S1-T and it was way too loud. Awesome sound, horrible drone. Everyone commented on how the car sounded awesome.
Stupid loud with a race pipe however.

The Racing Beat should have been the first exhaust system. Perfect for daily driving, zero drone(which is huge in my book), aggressive under WOT, sporty sound when just commuting.

With the S1-T it was like everyone tried racing me from a stop, and that got annoying quick believe it or not. Not to mention it was a cop magnet.

With the RB I get a lot of looks from older car enthusiasts and more respect overall for a clean sounding/appearing car.

It all depends on your definition of loud, what's acceptable, and what kind of tone your shooting for.

Yeah the RB is the number one on my list. I live on an Air force base so i want to be able to drive around and not be insanely loud. I also like it for the lack of drone. I just wanted something that i could drive normal in but when i go WOT have some thing that sounded great and had a decent tone with little drone. I like it for the price too. I want to hear some 8s in person but there is nothing for meets down here. All the ones in area probably dont even know what a rotary is. They just bought one because they are cheap.

The RB is pretty quite, after the MS I thought it was too tame but over time it has gotten louder and I am happy with the switch. As much as I loved the sound of the MS, it was just not livable day to day for me. I still wish the RB was a little louder at WOT but as I said with time it is approaching that sound. In my opinion a used/broken-in RB might be the perfect exhaust if you can find one. Think of the RB as a fine wine that gets better with age.

I figure the fact that i have a non resonated test pipe will make it decently loud too. My stock exhaust is fairly loud with it

Raptor75, thank you for taking the time to share your experience and knowledge with everyone here. I've spent hours searching for info on aftermarket exhausts and this is, by far, the most informative contribution that I've seen. I picked up a 2010 R3 last year and since it's my weekend/fun car, I'm willing to put up with the noise. I'm also a little concerned about voiding the warranty, which is another reason to lean towards the MS.

Unfortunately, the MS seems to be very hard to find here in Canada, so I paid over $1200 for mine. That's going to burn a whole in my pocket, but I figured I'd get it before they're totally out (I assume that these aren't being made any longer)

I will share my initial impressions once I get some miles on it.

Thanks again!

Wow, this thread has life. I've had the MS exhaust on since it was first introduced. I love the sound, but yeah it can drone at lower RPMs.

Just recently though, I started hearing loud metallic vibrations when starting the car and at certain RPMs, and realized that a weld had broken at one of the canisters. I got a muffler shop to re-weld the joint and it's like new. No other problems with the exhaust after about 6 years.
