Life After Installing an SOHN OMP Adapter

with the sohn, do you still need to change the engine oil every recommended 3k miles? it was recommended to change the oil every 3k due to better have fresh oil for the omp or simply the rotary engine needs fresh oil every 3k miles?

I think with sohn adapter you need change the oil every 3000 miles and with factory OMP every 5-6000 miles.

Be aware that if your a novice at this stuff you'll probably have to get this installed. It's not an easy job and there isn't a whole lot of room to work. I did it on mine last summer and love it. I just recently upgraded to the Sohn adapter support kit from Dan. I also switched my crankcase oil over to AMSOIL 10w-40 Signature series oil and use AMSOIL Sabre pro 2cycle in my oil tank as well as premix with each fill up.

I can see that theory. if you are adding a quart of oil every 1500 miles then you are getting fresh oil in there.
In reality the best thing you can do for an engine is keep the oil fresh. So the more often you change it the better.

Im gonna have to disagree. With the SOHN adapter you CAN change your oil LESS frequently. Your pushing clean two stroke into the motor. Make sure that is ALWAYS filled. You can now change your oil over to a synthetic if thats your cup o tea. But you can also adjust your oil changes farther out. I.E. without sohn adapter every 3000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first. With sohn adapter every4-5000 miles you can change your motor oil. NOW this is IMO only. Anyone goes and F's up there car it's their own fault BUT i've switched to 5-30 synthetic for the motor and Idemitsu 2 stroke Premix for the SOHN and i also premix my gas still. And i plan on changing my oil every 4500 miles. .

To each their own i run synthetic in the motor, but don't see the point in allowing your oil to break down twice as much before changing it. At least you get a mix of fresh and old oil with it stock.

These are the articles based off of piston engines. There are oil analysis threads here to help you make your mind up. Every situation is different, so it will vary from case to case, state to state.

Keep in mind that those articles are based on sedate piston engines. The rotary is a high heat, high stress, high sheer oil environment. Conventional oil is done after 2,500 miles as an example. See the used oil analysis thread for how synthetics hold up. 5k is usually a stretch.
It's true for other engines, certainly. My wife's 2 gets conventional every 5k, and the oil is still faintly amber, so it probably could go much longer. Just be wary of how the rotary is different

I understand the high heat the rotary puts out, BUT again synthetic has come a LONG way since it was first introduced. I should have been more specific within my own thoughts not just the posts i put up. I agree that 6k is a stretch so lets say 4-4500 to be safe. (this is for ME personally) As always that is IMO. Now to be clear i live in PA. I do NOT live in a high heat state. If you live in a high heat state, accompanied by the high heat the rotary puts out it is recommended you change your oil every 3k.

Since the installation of the sohn adapter plate I fill full synthetic Mobil1 oil in the oilpan (0W-30 in winther and 0W-40 in summer). So I change the motoroil twice a year (only in the oilpan) and the oilfilter only once a year (in autumn). I usually go ca. 3600 miles in summer (ca. in 7 months) and ca. 2000 miles in winther (ca. 5 months).
Every time, when I change the motoroil it's almost black!
Last motoroil change was 1 week ago and we decided to take the oilpan off (it has never been taken off before). The inside of the oilpan was absolutely clean, no metal particles at all! I was very happy! The engine ran ca. 34.000 miles with Dexelia 5W-30 (recommended by the factory in our area) and 11.000 miles with Mobil1 full synthetic oil).
I also add premix to the gas. My engine consumes (trough sohn AND premix) 1 quarter twostroke oil in every 630 miles (1 liter / 1000 km).
My car is in everyday use. Got actually 45.000 miles on the tacho (first engine) and it runs like new. (Bought it in 2006 as new)
I don't use my car on the track, but I race the engine quite often.
@logalinipoo: So it is! And some 2stroke oil comes in every case in the oilpan also, even with perfect oilrings.

I think you'd gobble on your own **** if you could and then gleefully crow about how good you are at it here too without any thought about how unacceptable it is...
never mind the obviousness about how a high drag SC and low displacement, high rpm motor is about the worst possible combination you can conceive for forced rotary induction. I'm sure you have the answers to the secret sauce that none of the other bro's with the same inane idea could ever come up with though ...

In terms of [ (peak power) / (engine life) ], I imagine you'd be hard-pressed to do better than a Rotrex & Redline pre-mix with a Renesis. Prove me wrong though. I'll even bet you an authentic McMaster-Carr bag full of my coveted fecal matter (shipped via USPS Express).

Remember when people used to at least respond with actual arguments and counterpoints? They should've never made internet access affordable for commoners. I suppose the RX-8 is a peasant's vehicle anyway.
If you could get back to me with those WHP reports, that'd be greatt.
