I have some basic mod questions not answered in a search

I've done a few searches but haven't turned up much because I don't really know what to search for.

I just got my 8 and want to look into some basic go-fast parts. From what I've gathered, the normal intake and exhaust mods are for sound and weight reduction of the wallet and not much more. I haven't seen much about computer programming though.

I've seen talk of tuners and basically DIY stuff, but not anything about a generic tune for a stock car to basically unlock some potential the factory didn't for whatever reason. Is there such an item? I know, coming from the Grand Prix world, that there are several reprogrammed PCMs you can buy that just replace the stocker and give a nice basic tune with adjusted fuel curves, raised shift points, removed speed limiter, etc. Are there any rx8 options for me to investigate?

Now a scan tool question:
I saw that AeroForce scan gauges support Mazda, but don't list the rx8 specifically. Do those work on our cars? I have a pair and would like to know what's going on in the engine before I start modding.

And lastly, the tranny. I have an auto and am wondering why the redline is so much lower than the sticks. don't you manual guys get to rev to almost 9k where mine does at 7'ish? Is there any benefit from moving this up? Where can I find more info on this?

also, please give me any good sources to investigate on these cars. I don't mind reading on my own and not being spoon fed, but I don't know where to start.

thanks!

For scanners, just buy a cheapie that will support the Can-bus codes the RX-8 uses.

I already have the aeroforce gauges from my GP and would prefer to use those assuming they work.

anyone? I've been doing general searches and found nothing. Like I said, I don't mind doing the research, but I need to know what I'm researching.

thanks for the advice. I normally try to make my goals clear when asking for opinions though. I learned that through my 5 years on my grand prix forums. As for now, my goals are to keep the car under warranty (bought extended), go a little faster, liven up the car's "power personality" a little and learn about the car/engine itself.

I'm not going big, just fun. I'll save going fast for my GP with a built engine that should turn 12's in the quarter after replacing the spun rod bearing that put me in my 8.
