I got a question,

When im driving and i get into my power band, when i hit about 7000rpm, the power band starts skipping. i just replaced the spark plugs so i know the plugs are fine and there is no check engine light... im really thinking its a worn out clutch...... what do you guys think?

If it is a worn out clutch then i finally have an excuse to get a new clutch/flywheel kit!

Thanks

I think you should check the coils.

though Cesar did most of the work in this thread. (I was doing all those other threads, and he was in the proces of buying a clutch, so he did all the work on this one for me.)

As i said above that my high rpm lagging was solved by my new coils and rb wires.... WELLLLL it hasnt...

I am really troubled by this and i have no idea why it is happening....

to reiterate; at about 6 - 7.5k rpm my power band skips for a sec or so and continues to skip until i shift...... at low rpm there is no problems..

So again i am thinking that i have passed the limits of my clutch and/or flywheel....

Guys what is your opinion on the matter??

I'm feeling like my clutch may be gradually on its way out.

I want a replacement clutch that has a stock feel/effort, but that may hold a little extra power for down-the-road mods. I doubt I'll go FI anytime soon, but may a couple years out.

I plan to go with a lighter flywheel at the same time, too.

Any recommendations on a replacement clutch? I've searched, but all the different plates and materials and such are a bit confusing.

honestly, any of them will work just fine for what you are asking of it.

a popular kit is the ACT kit. I have felt it, and its nice. much racier feel.

Flywheel, well since I have the ACT prolite, I must recomend it. (check out the flywheels flywheels, flywhees thread.)

DanRedX: did you inspect your plugs? RX-8's can esaily go through plugs in 25K miles...
- Did you put new plugs in? You sure you put the leading and trailing ones where they're supposed to go.
- RB plugs are a pain to get to 'snap' on properly around the plugs. They're a very tight fit. Double check them.

If you've checked all that out...PM me, maybe I can help.

Now to get this thread back on track....

- how many miles did you guys put on your clutches? (and did you auto x )
I'm at 30K on my car so it might still be a bit soon but just wondering...

I've got almost 42k mi. Bought the car with 16k mi.

I think that once I get the TSB fix for the cut switch I will feel better about my clutch. I don't drag or launch at high rpm, and I tend to be very aware of how my driving style may affect the clutch and other parts of the car.

rythmic, racier = it was much more sensative to clutch movment, it engages much harsher.

dont get me wrong, it was not like my solid hub 4 puck "on/off" disk that was in my drag car, but it was much less like a factory clutch feel then I expected.... you know, a little on the racey side, (which I like) and not so much on the granny side.

Which ACT model of clutch are you referring to?

That sounds nice, more of a definitive engagement/disengagement point?

btw, you got me thinking about my best friend back at home (probably asleep on my bed!) I'm way past due on my avatar anyway.

Hey, I have a rotty. (and a Pit)

Yeah the Engagment was WAY more noticable. much lower, and much more agressive. It was nice. not too harsh, but enough to make you feel ike your car was faster. (no that was not me saying clutches add h.p. that was me just being a goober)

now the 4 puck solid hub that was in my other car was pretty much an on off switch... it was awsome. (not for street use)

I dont remember which ACT it was. I am 90% sure it was their stronger one. (rather then their lower one) It was both Cesaralaniz and Kwescotts cars. I am sure reading back a couple pages would tell us which clutch they used.

yeah it was the ACT Extreme Street/Strip. also I updated the first post with the correct hub and puck details for the ACT clutches.

Thanks speed. Wow, boxer, rotty & a pit, you've got your hands full!

Yeah, at this point I don't know if I'd want to go with the ACT Extreme, or their "lower" level clutch. I guess I've got some reading to do.
