well, you might also consider a vented hood if you go with the mod and are worried about heating. also some radiator change might be in order. it's been said around the forum that it's good to add a second oil cooler before or soon after starting to add aftermaket parts to the car. i'd asume this would be a good reason as to why.

however, due to the fact that i have a 5 speed, i have a higher cruising RPM. i drive constantly at around 140 kph for about 300 km (not that often, but i do) and the water temperature does not shift at all. 140 kph on a 5 spd man means 4000 rpm.

as well i have driven to the seaside a few times, again 250-300 km with about 160-170-180 kph, around 5500 rpm, summer time (over here it's over 33 C degrees in summer ), and again i had no issues whatsoever. (if policemen read this, the speedometer might have been slightly off :P )

(p.s.- if you do wonder, we're spirited drivers here ppl cruise at 180 in seats )

the speeds were kept constant most of the time, and i tend to get nasty.. meaning i downshift almost every time i overtake, getting past 6000 rpm, or redlining when i feel like it. i have encountered no issues at all, no stalling, no engineflooding, no nothing.

stock car, 40k km

as well, i redline like an At, at 7400 rpm. with a 6 speed, i belive 6k rpm wouldn't be exactly as stressing on your system as it is on mine.

i wouldn't be that concerned about heat, to be frank. even less so once my aem and vented hood get here :D

p.s.- there might be one other thing, though.... i use 99+ octane gas. 98 if 99+ isn't available. i step on it, but i also care about it i never really understood how comes you guys use under 95 octane. and if you complain about gas price, it's 1.5 $/liter here. a tankfull costs me a bit over 70$.

No, it's the gear ratio in the differential, in the rear end of the car. It will multiply torque in every gear, while reducing top speed in each gear as well.

Is the $300 for the S2000 final gear the whole diff or just the gear?

Something can't be 110% compatible as 100% is the most compatible something can be.

If someone gives 150% effort that means that most of the time they only give 66.6%

Because they can't give more than they are capable of 150 x 0.666 = almost 100

So what if I want to change the final gear only? What gear is the best 3.9 or 4.1? Basically I don't want to effect the mpg vs pick up but have better mpg and sacrifice pick up for 6 gear so cruising would be better.... what do you suggest? Is this the s2000 gear I should be looking at?

(Ps does anyone have a rough estimate on how much it would cost to install a final gear? Is it a possible diy?)
Thanks
-benny

Doing a rear gear swap is not something you want to attempt on your own if you've never done it before, from what I understand.

If you wanted to change the final gear only, you'd have to open up the transmission, which would be more complicated. And you'd have to get a machine shop to create a custom gear for you. You might save gas with a taller 6th, but the cost of getting it done will wipe out any MPG savings and then some.

Some people here know what they are saying (Like Baron) and others need to read this entire thread again so that they don't waste money and time, two commodities that are scarce, for me anyhow.

Paul.

Instead of posting or reviving every single thread that has to do with rear end gearing, why don't you just PM some people? Mazmart is a good place to start. I'm moving one of your threads to the northeast section.

Padilla, this ratio final drive is on the newer eights, give one a test drive to feel the difference.

If you decide it is something you would like lookup mazmart. They have a masterbuilder. Believe there is a thread under the vender Mazmart for the final drive.
