You all are not thinking outside the box...Low budget drifting event. No one is running there 18x10 forgestars with $300 a peice street tires. They are most likely running the stockers with a $150 tire and the front tires don't matter much. So a prize of $300 would cover it.

P.S. I paid $800 + for my tires too so I know I would never do that. Then again I am more a road coarse type of guy anyway.

I might have to go by but not untill the 8 is back from Mazda...hopefully with a new engine and if Mazda is especially generous (thanks to faulty clutch pedel) maybe a new tranny.

I will drop it off next week.

Can someone provide the name of a good mechanic in the Miami area. I have a 2004 RX-8. It will not start. I thought that it was due to the problem with driving a short distance and turning off the car. I had two people from AAA at my house, both said it was the starter that is not working.

yea. it's probably you're starter. same thing happened with me last week. called mazda and they told me that since my car engine (also an 04 rx8) was still under warranty that they could take car of the flooded engine for free. turns out my starter was also busted and it'll cost about $500+ if you get it fixed through mazda. but you can save yourself the $100 of labor if you just buy the piece and do it yourself. that's what i did and it's really not hard to change the starter. and it takes about 20-30 min if you have all the tools. if you want i can send you the post where i saw the instructions.

itsdidihi...could be right about this but before we assume let's get some more information.

1) Is your battery dead or does it have a low charge?
- if you try to turn on the car and the starter makes a noise but then stops quickly it is possible during the time you were trying to turn it on you killed the battery.
- a possible reason it did not turn over is the engine is flooded. There are instructions on the forum to fix this issue. I will try and write something breif below to describe how I did it.

2) Does it try to crank? (I.E. do you hear the starter moving?)
- if you hear the starter cranking but the car does not turn on...This could also indicated a flooded engine.
- or something worse

3) Has your car ever stalled while running?
- while driving the rpm's start to drop even though your foot is on the gas peddle and the car eventually turns off. Once off it is difficult to turn back on or does not turn back on at all.

How I deflooded...

- jumper cables
- a friend with a running car

Remove the fuse for the fuel pump (see deflooding thread for exact fuse). While your friends car is running attach the jumper cables to both vehicles and attempt to turn on the car...It will not turn on. Crank the engine for 6 seconds letting the starter cool down for 15 seconds in between attempts. Do this about 6 times.

Replace the fuel pump fuse and attempt to turn on the car. It may not work the first time around. Someone on the forum did this like 3 times and the car eventually came to life.

Later,

Chris

the 40-05 rx8s had starter issues. if you go on bhr you should be able to pick one up for much less than what a stealership would charge. its the same starter at the 06-08 rx8.
