Looking forward to hanging with everyone again. Im bringing some friends along with me. They are not rotary owners (a 3000GT and a Beretta GTZ) but they still know beauty when they see it.

Now you know what's gonna happen, they're gonna see all those rotary marvels and really be dissatisfied with what they own. they'll start finding things wrong with their cars, like they're not rotary powered, they're not as sleek, and don't really look like they're the asphalt sharks our cars are and just get all depressed.

Tell'em they can come but don't get all whinny and start making excuses for their rides. We all understand 'cause we all drove something else at some time in the past.

Everyone is welcome!

Raleigh Rotary Drive-In, Spet. 11

We had a great drive-in last night and two different FD parades, one a 7:15 and another about 7:45. All gens were represented and we had another FC go topless. Keith finally made it to a drive-in and brought his beautiful red vert. It was getting dark by the time he got there so this is the best shot I could get:

Bobby showed up with his SS RX8, a beautiful car and a very interesting driver:

We also had the MB twins from G'boro show up, well almost twins:

Bobby brought along a friend that has a pristine '97 Mitsu VR-4 that all the kids seemed to like, that means all of us plus the little leaguers. It had one of those wierd V shaped engines with a lot of moving parts and sounded funny:

The body count ended up with a total of 14 rotary powered marvels (1 FB, 1 RX8, around 7 FDs and Ken, Steve, Joey, Keith, and I representing the FCs). I may have missed one or two, and we also had three cars that use the old piston technology for power.

I think all had a good time and enjoyed meeting their fellow rotary owners. Seeing the old technology just reminds us how good we have it!

NEXT DRIVE-IN IS SEPT 25, just two weeks and a week before the VIR Grand Am races on Oct 3.

Cool, yes same spot. If we get enough interest, we could parade in like the FD's! haha.

What do you think about starting to have the meet at different spots around town to show our cars off to different groups of people. Even sometimes outside of Raleigh (Durham, Chapel Hill, Greensboro maybe). Just a thought I stole from the Nashville people on the rx7 message boards. ..

Wow posting at the same time.. last time it was only me, and the time before that there were 2 of us (my first day there). I know there are at least 5 in Raleigh that visit this message board (seen in the hello from raleigh thread).

Well i used to live in cary but just recently moved to chapel hill cause im going to school there. A meet in chapel hill would be swell, but i dont know of too many places that would be cool to meet with a large enough parking lot.

Cant wait to come to the next one. Hopefully I can bring my camaro as well.

Hey, this is Dale with the Mazdaspeed RX8. Sorry I missed last Saturday, I was travelling. I'm going to try to make it the 25th but have an offer to drive a NASCAR ride at Richard Petty's at night in Richmond.

We missed you at the last drive-in, well actually we missed your car. Let's see Richard Petty NASCAR driving or Raleigh Rotary Drive-In, man that is a tough choice, don't know what I would do but I know you'll make the correct decision. See ya in October!

Hey Bobby, good idea, just coordinate your parade times, I'd hate to see a major pile up at the intersection or in the parking lot. This may be a problem, the FD quys always want to make the grandest entrance, after everyone is already there. Hope to see you and some other 8 owners on Saturday.

Pictures from Saturday's Drive-In

OK, photobucket was taking new photos tonight. Here are some shots from Saturday's Drive-In. Pardon the quality but it gets dark earlier and earlier and we weren't parked in the best light. Next meet we'll move over to the Home Depot parking lot and reserve a section under the overhead lighting.

This was a night for beautiful cars the 8s and the FCs were the stars of the drive-in and those cars with the funny engines were also represented with a couple of Supras, Mike's Firebird, and a Mustang Salleen amoung others:

This is Raven's 88 FC from Wilmington:

This is Greg's 91 Turbo II:

Here are the Toyota reps and the Salleen in the background:

Here is what that supra looked like in Steve's rearview mirror. I took it just after he'd shifted down into 6th:

Here is Jag's 8 coming up fast in the other lane:

and here is one of Joey's new FB:

It was a great time and seriously the next drive-in will gather in the HD parking lot. Hope y'all enjoyed it as much as I did.

Bert

Yep. Same place same time. I will not be there this weekend though. Going to homecoming! Take good pictures :D

Anyone know if there is a way to edit thread topics without being a mod? It would come in handy for announcing the drive-in's without making a new thread. I dont know if people are interested in the drive in on sept. 11.
