Nabil had a great run, I was able to watch him work 'The Rock' from the seat of an 06 STi, which I slipped into the HPDE2 run group. A student wanted me to show him some 'hot' laps. The car looked great as always.
My 8 did ok, it was still on the same tires, which now have 12 days, and @45 heat cycles on them.
I will have video of some of my runs, and I am sure Nabil will have some of his.

It's Sunday morning at 5:50 and I couldn't sleep because I wanted to know THE NEWS! I'm wide-a-wake as a hoot owl because I'm so anxious to here THE NEWS!. Not that I'm concerned or any thing because I'm not worried at all about my friends or if there were any problems that THE NEWS! might tell me. So, I will go fix a pot of coffee and wait patiently for someone to give me THE NEWS!.

The view from the tower is AWESOME!!!! Nabil warmed up yesterday for more slaying today. He looked great. We had three incidents...Dale Earnhart hit the wall (again...sorry Val) and tore the front off of his ride. An absolutely stunning yellow Maserati (sp) tagged the wall and fubar'd her rear end (she did this with 5 minutes left in the day)......arrrggggg. Finally, a cobra replica tagged he wall where Dale did, but he will be back today as he was repairing it as we all left last night.
I took some amazing hot laps with STF....the new setup ROCKS!!!! The banks on the track are much more dramatic than one realizes.....weather is great.....looking forward to yet another AWESOME day with NASA and friends.....today is video day from the tower and such of Nabil and STF.....later all.....

OUCH! Val, I'm sorry to here this. Based on what Phlash said, I'm glad you are OK. Those three NASCAR turns looked really hairy. Hope your car is OK and will be repaired properly soon.
I'd like to know how the 8's are handling the long WOT running along with the big blocks?
I wish I was there!

There was a Dale E Replica there, which crashed, Val didn't crash, that I know of.
As for Sunday, the slayer was at it again, with an expanded diet of Porsche, RX7's, and 03/04 Cobras. He may have even snacked on a Type R for light diet.
He may have even turned some Stop&TurnFreak like lap-times, but I won't steal (all) his thunder. Actually, he turned lap-times 2 seconds faster than I did on my first run there, not bad considering he is down almost 50whp (atleast) to my Evo.
Overall, GREAT weekend, I had great amounts of fun. I didn't get to pit near Nabil, because he was hob nobbin in the garage with the racer boys, while I slummed in the pits.
Thanks again to Nabil and Phlash for getting video of me on the track. I sincerely appreciate it. I can't wait to see the footage (let me start now) 'is it up yet?'.
I will let Nabil fill you in on the massacre of carnage he left in the DE groups.

Back from The Rock
First off, it was a successful weekend. Weather was absolutely perfect for both days when it was supposed to thundershower on Saturday. Not too hot, and not cold. Just perfect!!
Saturday - driving into the speedway and seeing the steep banks is quite a sight especially thinking that soon I was going to be driving on them. The banking must be over 30 degrees. Truth be told, I was quite apprehensive. Healthy fear is what I like to call it. The instructors get a session before anyone else and I went with mine in his car. That was a great intro to the track. It felt scary in the passenger seat and he wasn't even cooking. My first session was spent learning the line and building some confidence on the banking. I had to turn off DSC in my 2nd session as the g forces really threw it for a loop. It is pretty unnerving to be doing 90 arounf Nascar turn 1 and 2 and having DSC constantly pulsing the inside front brakes. By the last session of the day I was getting the hang of the track. At no time on Saturday did I point someone by. I was hands down the fastest car out of the 10 of us. Unfortunately the Maserati had an incident and ended our last session 20 min early.
Sunday - HPDE1 and 2 were combined on Sunday for 3 of the four sessions. Session 1 was frustrating because some high hp cars would just trear off down the front straight and then were oblivious to the fact that I was on their *** from turn 3 until we got back on the oval. I had to pit 2 times to stretch out a lead and still could only get 2 clean laps all session long. Session 2 was similar but I had more patience. Session 3 was just HPDE2. A guy in an Integra Type R was really quick so we played together. He carried more speed through Nascar 1 and 2 but I could still get away from him lap after lap. I had a lot of fun rotating my car through the turns in the infield. It slides very predictably and maintains its poise. Amazing to think it can chow down and spit out everything else it encountered on the track.
Overall, it was an excellent weekend. The RX8 is a terrific car and it proves itself to me time after time, lap after lap. I was timed "unofficially" for a few laps. During one of those I got a 1.11.90 To put that into perspective, the fastest Thunder racers were doing 1.03s and the fastest lightening racer was turning 1.04s. This was my first time on this track. I will post video when I get a chance. Looks like I have a big project at work I need to attack right away.
Later y'all.

About "The Rock"
After a great time with NASA (who is quickly becoming like a third family...my homey 8tr's are my second) and friends, hobnobing (from afar) with cast and crew from the new Ben Stiller NASCAR movie, I got home around 1:30 this am......man I'm beat......
Slayer was, as usual, "The man" at this event. I'll toot some horn for him....his instructor stated that he never writes anyone off to run solo......he did for slayer........Thanks roomy...I had a blast......we can do mexican ANYTIME...
All I ever hear from STF is "oh my tires, they have got to be replaced"....but then we go out for some HOT laps and run NASCAR turns one to two at a million MPH, two inches from the wall........It was a BLAST, but all I could think of up in those turns was "that damn side mirror is going to pop that wall and come through this window like a gun shot".......but even on "old tires" STF's skills and his current setup ROCKS!!!!
I got some video from the tower of both STF and Nabil, not too much (and the quality of the camera work probably sucks) as Sunday I was solo in the tower for RC....so I kinda had my hands full. I got some pictures and I will post them soon. From the tower it looks like STF and Slayer were crawling...but, from the ride with STF and watching slayer from infield, I know better.....
An old RX7 won the three hour enduro Sunday morning. The last two cars came down to a miata (that we think may have damaged the steering rack and had to drop out) and the rotary.......at 128 laps (192 miles) the rotary prevailed....MAZDA RULED!
Unlike Saturday, Sunday was clean...no accidents (that's because I had the tower...)
We had a Pantera there. My RC partner Saturday got the chance to ride it in Sunday....get this.....had to come in from the ride because the car's acceleration was hurting his back.......details to come as I get them.
The legend cars, as they usualy do, put on quite a show. They are truely bump and go pocket rockets.
As I wake and remember stuff I will post. NEXT EVENT..."The Rock" in Feb to start off the NASA season.
later.....

Glad to hear y'all had a great time. Will probably have to start budgeting for the Rock in '06.
How were the transitions? Did the car complain much as you stepped on/off the big oval? Curious.

Slayer,
That wall has got to be a hell of a rush! I did the Richard Petty experience and drove by those walls at 150+ mph. It was a hell of a drive! Good save by the way on the way into the in-field.
