ok guys,
1st day with time and no rain. I put my track wheels and tires on to try them out. I will need a really LOW jack to do 2 at the time. remember these wheels are only 24.4 inches tall so in essence it reduces my ratio almost like a 4.77 diff would.
They look good on the car. Almost like stock suspenion/ wheel clearance.
How did it drive? Well I couldnt test any g forces or real high speed cornering challanges, but let me tell you this. Now 5th gear pulls almost as strong as 4th gear with the 18's. 4th gear? well how about almost as strong as 3nd with the 18's. I am not kidding. this drive ratio reduction has had a stronger effect on acceleration that anything else I have done. On the back straight at RA I am anticipating having to go into 5th gear before the flag station. Top speed in 4th now per calculations is about 119mph (I am using 8.5 as shift points.)
If anyone is thinking about getting track wheels and tires go with a 17"x8 or 8.5 and a 40 size tire. Get to keep a little sidewall, the wheels are light and the tires are a LOT cheaper.
I will put my track tires on at the hotel and let some of you drive it to see for yourself. HooooYaaaaa! only 20days away!

Car drives tight--a little squirrley on the street--drive with 2 hands on the wheel. turn in is great --middle turn is solid and the tail is planted. Still has a little power understeer but I figue my R compunds will help some with that. with a 35 offset wheel i also have an increase in my wheel track of about 3/4 of an inch. every little bit helps. the rear toe in really makes for high speed stability(in the esses you really feel it) I had very even tire wear at Roebling.
what do yall think?

OD,

One thing I found out with R's is that even though the fronts plant really good, the rears do too. I'm going to take up my front camber for that reason and max it out as much as I can. One thing you have though, are the Koni's and Sways that I don't. That may keep the fronts from wearing on the outside like mine did from the understear. Anyway, just a thought. Then again, with your added power, it may not be a problem at all. I"d love to hear what you think when we're at RA.

Sounds awesome OD! I am sure you will see 5th on the back straight no problem. You will probably get much better exit off 7 in 3rd now as well. As for TPMS, I can sometimes drive half a session before my TPMS light comes on.

Just seeing the track today, makes me look forward to it even more. I can't wait to get back out and try my hand at Turn 12 again. It is going to be a lot of fun.

Yes, I enjoyed it as well. Thanks L8 and TA for a few pointers. I'm all ears around you guys. By the time I pull out on the track, I will feel like I've driven it already.

hey Lego, thanks for the "watch out" about the tire wear--maybe its all the fast autocross reaction your hands have developed--jk. At roebling i had good even tire wear on all corners- hope that continues. Yea we will all share knowledge at the track. I can steer a lot with the throttle.
Silver--your air pressure should be at about 36 cold on all four corners. On warm days I have started out at 35. Your tires will heat up and when they get a little slippery take a tire cool down lap. Takes me about 4-5 laps before that happened with the 040's.
My trick for turn 12 is DONT LOOK FOR THE APPEX. Look to where you want to go on the other side of the turn. If you dont get the turn right it has a little dip in it that will make your car dance a little! entry speed for turn 1 should be at least 85mph and remember it will seem to fast but then the banking will catch ya. If this is your 1st time at RA be careful of turn 5 dont get to aggressive with it--make sure your downshift has occured BEFORE you enter the turn and the chassis has settled--just ask Nabil about turn 5!
Much other stuff
starting to get exciting!
TA thanks for tpms news-I feel better now!

hmmmmm, are TA and myself the only ones that have launched off of the track at RA? Wow.....I'm in great company....

Silver........take the first day slow and at your pace.....OD has always been quick so don't try to match him the first day.......it'll come.....RA only has four places to run off at speed and keep the car in tact..........pace yourself......you're gonna have a blast!

Not turn 12. Not 10a, unless you have a cat (that's not kitty litter, unless you have a huge kitty).

Still undecied about R/A. I'll be there to hang out, for sure!

Turn one is fun, not too scary to look at. Watch you lines very carfully, turn one can Bite. Keep you head up, and your eyes soft. The further you can look ahead the safer you are.

Take nothing for granted, while on track "at speed"!

17 days to go

Less than 3 weeks to go. This is our biggest NASA event to date. Are we having fun yet?

By the time RA gets here, i will be so ready to hit the track. It is getting close to time to swap back to the Hawk pads, and we all know that means track time is near.

The mountian drive this Sunday will have to hold me over.

May a dvd of our track vids and watch them on the way down!
Man only 16 days more to go before we meet up at Charlies--and thats almost as fun as being on the track--almost.

My wife and I go to the Dr tomorrow for the final path report------ xfingers and we really appreciate the prayers. My gut feeling is that we are going to be ok.

Tempted to get the unorthodox pulleys before RA. Going up for a GT East alignment next week.
Oh yea I have a surprise for the unoffical club--I hope everyone likes it.
Who else but me is going to be running pre lube?
Damn I cant even think straight

OD, I don't cross my fingers, but I will pray specially for your wife tonight, and another for you.

I can't wait for this event, I am SO siked. I want to go now. Steve got his cage in, so he is siked. I am supposed to go to lunch with he and Dan tomorrow, but I have to bail, I hve to be in TN. Oh well, only a few more days.

The Comfort Inn in Oakwood, mention the NASA rate, and you get the room at a slight discount. Better hurry, they were filling up quick when I reserved my room in early February.
