Looks like our space got confiscated by some other group so MazdaratiRob is giving up some space with his group. So we are now under the wing of Roar Racing! AWESOME!

Temps are down and we hand no rain today. Looks like it is setting up for a great weekend.

Kevin and I left the group around 9:30 and I'm sure the party was just begining. The skid pad was being discussed as we left.

Lots of rain, slow driving, spin outs and smashed cars. Don't worry, none of us. We all kept it on the track.

Jody - BigPineKey took a Time Trials first place in his division, driving a Corvette
Rob - MazdaRatiRob took a second place in his Time Trials division, driving his RX-8

L8 took photos and will share tomorrow, Sunday, I think that is what he said.

I'm too tired to think so I'll have to wait till I have a clear head to update.

Hey Chas, sorry I missed you last night, I dis see you on 85 North, as you were heading up, and the car looked very nice, as usual.

Well, as silver mentioned, I did take pictures yesterday. I have a few of them ready for viewing:
Road Atlanta Gallery

I apologize in advance, to HPDE 1. I did not get many pictures of your group, because your sessions were plagued by rain. And at the risk of expensive camera gear, not belonging to me, I was unable to photograph you guys. I did get a few, and only have a couple posted now, but will post more later.

I have only gotten a few images prepped at this point. I have a lot more picked out to share, and will let you guys know when they are up and ready for viewing.

I had a great time hanging out Friday, big thanks to Phlash, for bringing the Chateau, and allowing us to stay there. I hope it does not take too long to get it cleaned up. We really appreciated it, and it made for a great time.

Good driving on Saturday to all of you guys, the rain made it tough, and you guys did well. And looked good doing it, even if you thought you were going slow.

More pics to come...

We had a hell of a time! I can't write too much about it, as I'm at a hotel now near the track. We all got invited to stay for 8 hours of free track time tomorrow with SuperTuner Magazine. Should be a hell of a time! Nabil is going to get another poster! Mike, Nabil, and I will be coming back tomorrow at 8am.

We all had a great day today. No rain, cool weather, and a quick track. Thanks so much to ROAR for such wonderful hospitality. Rob is fast as hell in that RX-8! Jody, thanks for riding with me during my first session. We were running 1:53's in HPDE3. TA, OD, and Curtbob were fast as hell. It was great playing with all the cars out there. Open passing with a point by makes it much more exciting.

Well, I have lots of pictures and incar video. I'll post them soon with lots of pictures tomorrow too! Everyone take care and I'll write more when I get a better connection than this slow computer at the main hotel desk.

Just finished cleaning the car up. That was hard to do after putting in a full day at the track. I had a blast and TorqueAholic blasted by me in HPDE2, along with that NSX that he was playing with. Both TA2 and I got signed off for solo. I really enjoyed having the time by myself in the car. You get to put all the things you've learned to use and it was a great experience. I think TA2 chose to keep his instructor in the car. I could tell they were getting along well and that TA was learning a lot from him. He was a very interesting instructor.

The HPDE3 gang (TrackAddict, Lego, Kurt bob, and Olddragger) was a fun bunch to watch. I especially enjoyed watching Lego and TA going at it. Lego would come around turns 10a and 10b pretty quietly then TA would come around with the tires barking in his approach to 10a, screaming in 10a with a slight pause as he straightened out and start screaming again in 10b then up the hill to try to catch Lego. Fun to watch guys.

In HPDE1, Kevin (track virgin) got started with his first outing in the rain and I mean heavy rain. He didn't seem to be enjoying himself too much to start with but the rain cleared and he got a taste of a dry run and he was ready for Sunday. Had another hard go at it the first two sessions but got it together for his final session on Sunday. Now he wants us to get a RX-7 or a Nissan 240SX and fix it up just for tracking. Mooddude, that is one FINE machine you have there. Nice to meet you finally. You really should have been in HPDE3. Damn fine machine.

Rob (mazdaratirob)... what can I say? You have been very gracious to supply a parking area and kind of tuck us under your wing. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say. It really means a lot to the GA RX-8 Club for you to contribute you time, knowledge and friendship to us. Not to mention, those are some damn nice caps! It was exciting watching you drive from behind while I was riding in my instructors Turbo Porsche 944. He was driving the wheels off that car and he could not catch you. Made be proud of the RX-8. Congratulations on your 2nd place, even if we know it should have been 1st.

Jody, I really want to ride with you sometime on Road Atlanta. You were booked this time but I'd like to put in officially, right now, for seat time with you next event. After riding with you at CMP, I think a ride at every track should be mandatory. Congratulations on your First Place.

And to Phlash. Dude you gave up driving to bring the Chateau. Even though I did not stay there I want you to know that I enjoyed sitting back and relaxing in the evenings and lunch brake there. Saturday night was frigging cold! I hope someone got a pic of OD and TA wrapped up in their blankets while sitting in the lounge chairs outside. Then in contrast Charlie and Phlash in their shorts like it was the middle of August... wait... it was the middle of august!

Charlie, enjoyed yall's visit. Just would not be the same without seeing you during and event or at least at a tuner session before we go. Your stories are always funny. I especially like the one where the female cop busted you for testing the race car in front of your shop. Damn funny.

WhiteTop showed up later on Sunday and I didn't get to spend any time with him. Sorry dude! I'll see ya at work tomorrow and talk about the event.

NASA, One fine event! Mighty fine. Look forward to the next one.

Thanks all for the update.

When tracking in the rain, do you get a lot of water in the cabin since you have to have the windows down?

Just a quickie for me as I have a full day of track tomorrow

Phlash - dude you run a nice chateau. Thanks for brining it, bringing all the ***, brats and knockwurst. Thanks for working race control and keeping the weekend running flawless.
OD - always an honor to hang out with you. It was particularly great to be back in the same HPDE group. Too bad you missed me and KurtBob snoring on Sat night. We were in tune...
KurtBob - it was great hanging out with you and driving with you on track (that was humor) It was also great having someone other than me who snores. Hope to see you again at a track day!
Lego - dude we must be crazy going back out for more tomorrow. But today was a blast. I had an awesome time following you. I am sure I will end up with some cool vids of you in front of me...
Silver8 - what can I say my frind. It is always a pleasure. I am particularly glad to see you got your own flesh and blood addicted now! Congrats on the solo ride.
TA2 - ugly car but... J/K - you looked really good out there playing with our friend in the NSX. Too bad you cant run in the Time Attack tomorrow.
Kevin - congrats on popping your track virginity. We'll be seeing you!
Rob - thanks for your gracious hospitality int eh ROAR paddock. It was cool to be next to you and feel associated with your team. Thanks for an eye opening ride in your RX8. You showed me how I can go faster and I learned a lot. There is nothing like seeing!
Jody - I finally got a chance to ride in the Big Pine Key Z06 and it was an expereince worth waiting for. Now I know what it feels like to turn a 1:42 at RA. When I grow up, I want a Z06 too!
MoodDude - HPDE2 for you! I love the sound of your car and it is quite the rocket. Looking forward to Monday man!

Tomorrow is going to be fun. Lego, MoodDude, and I will participate in a Time Attack. This is basically a time trials event. I hope we represent well withteh tuners that show up. I am confident that we can hold our own with most blinged out ricers that may come out. The pros will hand us our *** but then again, we are not professional drivers. It will be fun especially a full day of open track with open passing.

Mornin' all!!!

By this time TA, MoodDude, and Lego are either on , or close to being on crack....I mean track......I'm sooo damn jealous....I hope they are spanking the the little tunerteens......

You all looked great out there this weekend.....thanks for behaving yourselves in your groups......it helps make my job at control easier......

Saturday in control sucked....bad weather, multiple incident's, spectators over the fence ripping flags out of veteran corner workers hands, etc., etc. But Saturday night's *** dinner with all of you, Charlie and his friend, and all the new friends that came by as well helped make the end of the day much better. Sunday was much better.......

Paul, if your reading this, don't be a stranger! We enjoyed your company and hope that we helped make your first NASA event in the region a good one that you will always remember. That is one fine ride you have! One day, when I grow up, I'd really like to take some laps with you in it.

Nabil, Lego, OD, and KurtBob......when I watched you then watched the HPDE 1 folks, I am thrilled and in awe of difference between the two groups. It's amazing and exciting to see our little extended family moving up through the groups so quickly....hat's off to every-one's progress over the past year and a half.

TA2, MoodDude, and Silver, your speed and consistency this weekend was impressive. Keep up the good work and keep the shiny side up.......

Kevin, Saturday may have been a rough start, but you had a strong finish...keep up the good work.

To Rob and the entire ROAR organization, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for your love of the sport, your time, your feedback, the hats, and the opportunity to set up with you. TA and Lego have me itching for a ride with you or Billy now....You can stop by for a cold one anytime!!! Good luck with the rest of the season and the new setup.

BigPineKey....It was great seeing you again! Congrats on a great weekend and the time wins. See you at Roebling??

Chaz, So nice of you to stop by.....I'll see you end of Sept.

L8, I hope the stone is on the move.........thanks for all your help setting up and such Friday. We need to start the Roebling planning phase now.

Once again, NASA hosted a great event. I think for the most part folks were pretty happy with track time and the testing of the elements this weekend (hell, we almost got snow Saturday night...). TA made a comment to me at the end of the weekend that really hits a home run. "You know, there are many, many different ways and organizations to do track events or get track time. But, with all the good people we have, and will continue to meet, NASA feels more like family. Everyone is there to genuinely help to make you a better driver and and feel welcome." Well said TA, well said........

Alright now boys... Lego, TrackAddict and MoodDude! You best report in as SOON AS POSSIBLE! I don't care if you do have a long way to drive home and you raced around the premier track in the south for 8 hours (for free). I've been wondering all day how it was going. Did you have to buy a new set of tires to drive home? Did you have to fill up 4 times? Did you show up the whiny little ricers? Did you get humbled by the Porsches and BMW's? Did MoodDude get to stretch his legs? Did you get a group photo?

Come on damnit! This is killing me.

Well
I gotta say--I think this w/e will be infamous. Dang what a blast. From T/A's coupon pants, etc, etc, etc. and my 15 min tire change with the rx 8 club pit crew in the rain! Pure brotherhood is what we have guys--pure brotherhood. And that my friends is getting much rarer. I could go on and on and on. For those that couldn't make it--- I wish you could have and we missed ya!
I think Sunday was the best track day I have ever had. From pulling up beside that dang 944 turbo on the inside out of turn 7 and blowing my horn, 95mph(had to slow a little) inside line passes through turn 12, inside line passes turn 6 and 1(in one it was 3 abreast for a little!) to the bmw that spun in front of me coming out of 5 and the 4 cars that where right behind me!(we ended up nose to nose!) and that was the 1st session.----jk
Driving the pro racer to the airport, the hospitality and recognition that we continue to get( brotherhood yall), talking at lenght to Chris the Tech director (sure didnt know our rotor housings start to get out of shape when they get over 195F!) and on and on.
it may be time to take a deep breath--we are getting faster guys---really. We are probaly getting close to the 1:50 mark at RA. Re-think -- we have to stay careful.
I found out I really like traffic. Much better than just driving the line.
I also found out that i hate rain. I hate it.
gotta go--chores! Talk later
It was hard to keep my mind on work today.

Just got back - and all I have to say is WOW! You guys should have gone to today's event! Trackaddict, Lego, and myself got so much track time with only a few cars on track, it was amazing!

Trackaddict and Lego did a great time and got my times down another 5-6 seconds a lap! I made my fastest lap time with the French-Canadian sitting in my passanger seat.

So for the drum role please:

Trackaddict - 1:52.190
Lego - 1:52.074
MoodDude - 1:51.128 (my hp might have something to do with this?)

I had a great weekend with all of you and thanks for dinner and drinks!

I am pretty wiped out from the 3 hours of free track time, free lunch, and the long drive home. So I will say more later.

L8, love the gallery. Hope you enjoyed shooting as much as I'm enjoying looking at them. I really like the yellow porsche and Ferrari. Kevin was excited to see himself on the track too. He said, "Now I have proof I was driving a race car". Thanks for your hard work. I know what it takes to put all those images together after an event. When everyone else is on to the next mindset, you are still busy for days or weeks putting this stuff together. I want you to know how much I appreciate you doing this.

Thanks
Don

Race Report

Well, after making it home and tending to my neglected family, my neglected lawn, and a blown off work day, I am finally free for a few minutes before I go to sleep.

In my weekend recap I neglected to thank L8APEX for braving the pain of a kidney stone all day to take pics. Thanks man!!!

As for today, it was great! What can I say - all the track we could handle for free at Road Atlanta is hard to beat. We got started a bit late but were finally on track just before 11am. We had a photo shoot with all the participants for the magazine. I believe it will be in the December issue IIRC. None of us got interviewed or anything but we smoked their track pipe until we had a good buzz on. Mood was placed in Group A which was for the really powerful cars. Lego and I were in group B along with a spec Miata, Russ Marshall in his spec RX7, Heikki the flying Finn in his Locost 7, a few miatas, a turbo Eclipse, a BMW M Coupe and some other stuff. I think there were a total of 26 cars or so. Lego and I had some terrific runs together. The best one was our last where he followed me for about 10 laps. We both turned some really quick laps. My best was 1:52.190 while Lego did a 1:52.074. He had TA2 with him though so he was doing fantastic. When we finished that session we were all grinning ear to ear.
My tires did OK. They do slide around a lot. Their bite on turn in is not so great compared to my old RA1s. They will slide but eventually hookup. It makes hitting the apex at speed challenging since I have to account for the understeer and turn in a hair earlier. I had many wiggles but no drama except for a close one in turn 1 where I kept tracking out and drifting towards the grass. I ended up with my tires on the curbing at track out just shy of the grass. If I would have dropped a tire, I think it would have been tricky to save. Glad I didnt find out
Legos V710s are awesome. The grip is astounding and his lines around the track were excellent. Lego and I rode with each other in one of our sessions and I can say we both learned from each other. I picked up a better way to take turn 1.
I rode with MoodDude as well. His car is wicked fast and handles awesome. I was glad to be able to give him a few pointers he felt helped him out.
TA2 stopped by of course and was getting rides with us left and right. Being on track is fun regardless of which seat you are in IMHO. Now I am going to look at L8APEXs pics, then go to bed.
G'nite y'all!

I have video edited and will post first thing tomorrow morning. I compressing it right now. It's from my final and best session. I want to get it up before TA, TA2, Lego, MoodDude, OD and Kirk bob get anything up and steal my thunder. I know once those vids start posting mine will be history.

Hey guys! It was good seeing all of y'all.

TA, I'm glad you could get a lap in the Big Pine Key taxi. Lego, it was fun riding with you and it was impressive. Silver, we'll get that ride along at Raod Atlanta, yet!

Here's a short video clip from Saturday. The first part is David Farmer in that WC Corvette coming around me in Time Trials, the second part is just a lap on saturday.

Giddy Up!

Mine looks like slow motion compaired to yours. I knew you were fast at CMP but this looks more like your kind of track. I can't wait for the ride.

That was one wicked Corvette that passed you.
