Great turnout guys. I think we had 12 or 13 different cars show up, but not all at once. It was nice to meet some of the new owners, and also nice to catch up with some good friends. Those of you that took pictures, there is a section in the Gallery at garx8club.com for the pics you took.
Post Pictures Here

Thanks to all who came out to say hello, hopefully we can do this more often, if not every month, but every other.

Just say this thread so didn't attend the meeting. Probably would have.

I live in the Kennesaw - Acworth area and may be interested in joining the club. I am not a street racer and now 60, so wondering what the various members are like and the ages. I have been involved in racing all my life so leave that for the track. I do scare my wife at times as I don't like slowing down for turns.

As for the club meetings. Many restaurants will let you reserve a room for a meeting if you spend some money for drinks or food. That would work better if there was a specific topic for the meeting. I was technical instructor for Mazda USA in the 70's and worked for Yamaha USA since. I could be a speaker if wanted. I know some history of Mazda and the rotary and am familare with manufacturing and engineering issues.

TRZ750, I'm 54 and none of us are street racers. The age varies from 19 to what ever OldDragger is. I think he is close to my age but he may have me by a couple years. We all have a common appreciation for the RX8, wheather we participate at driving schools like NASA, trips to the mountains, get togethers at Andretti's or meeting at Mazcare. We just love talking about cars and making friends. We do not limit ourselves to just the RX-8 and actually take pride in inviting sports cars of ALL types to join us. We would love to have you join in. By the way, all you had to do to join is say you wanted to join! Welcome to the club, your an official member now.

Thanks. I guess I need to watch this site for info on the club. Or is there any seperate post or e mail system?

I have been real busy at work lately. With travel to the west coast at times. So forget to check this site at times.

My 8 is a 2004 Sport or what ever the top model was. It is Yamaha blue 6 speed with sun roof, 6 CD changer and black interior. Now have 24,000 miles on it. Haven't spent anything on the 8 except oil filters as I get my oil for free, until now. Had to the dealer (Jim Ellis) ~ 10 times for different bulletins, a sun visor (they changed both), & recalls, but never a charge. So this last week I had a check engine light from the evaporitive system (a Bull) and had them change the starter and plugs even though no starting problem. Do notice the faster starter. Did feel sorry for the dealer as they were always great, so purchased a air filter.

I get ~19mpg around Kennesaw, but it has improved when I went over 20K.

I 2nd what Silver said. Street racing is a no no. However, I do enjoy speed on a closed course. Welcome to the community.

On this site we hang out mostly in the SE RX-8 Forum (where this thread is located) however we do have our own website and forum. Go over to our site and register there as well. You can post pics of your car in the Gallery, see a schedule of all events, talk tech stuff or shoot the bull! Although we occasionally talk tech stuff there, we do depend on this site, "the mothership", for important stuff.

Sorry I missed you guys - dammit. I've been workin' like a dog lately, with an overseas trip coming up on Wednesday I've really crammed for time. Things are nuts around here!

Anyway - I'll be at the next one, maybe we can do a get-together between now and the next monthly meet?

Cheers.

Silver, you said any cars are welcome?

At the next meet I will come. I couldn't come this time since I was on vacation. When I do come I will bring with me some other 16 year old friends and their rides. They have some pretty cool cars and we are all planning to take a mountain run pretty soon. My friend's dad has a 2006 Lotus Exige and he usually leads us through the mountains. We can't keep up though. Not only is he an amazing driver, but he's in the best car for the track.

Anyways, I hope to see ya'll at the next meet... Hopefully sometime in July right? I hope so since my 17th birthday is coming up and I want to be the first 16 year old member!

Spyder_doo, I'm going to miss your yellow 8. Enjoyed watching you run at autocross. It made for some great photos. Guess we'll just have to get some of your Miata now! I think you may want to change your sig under your user name. The "Turbo'd 8" doesn't seem to fit any more.

Hmm, I don't think so. You could try, but he has been to various driving schools everywhere. I would like to see it though.

Anyways, is there going to be a meeting for July?

Panoz at Road Atlanta and NASA at Carolina Motorsport Park in Kershaw SC. That is if you are interested in tracking or watching. Check the schedule in the GARx8Club forum or here in the SE forum.

I am sure if you want to have a meeting in July then it can happen. I'll stop by if I can since I do not have the husbandly responsibilities that most do. It might not be as big as others but every meet can't always out do the previous ones. I am sure that if we plan it some will look at their schedules and see they have the time and figure what the hell and come on out. It is my personal belief in regards to a monthly meet, that it should occur in addition to whatever else is planned and not replaced by another event. That way it will continue to occur rather than get lost in the mix.
Where are you located so we can figure out a time and place. If you were over 18 and in Marietta I would say Dave & Busters but that won't fly unless your parents come I think. I'm cool with Andretti's again but if the majority of people will be coming from Cobb Co area then it wouldn't hurt to do it closer to Marrietta or Kennesaw or a more central location for this one event.

Ok, I would love to have a July meet. I live in the Duluth/Lawrenceville area and I'll be 17 in August so I'm not sure about D&B's. Whatever works for me though. I may be going out of town July 15-22, so maybe sometime other than then. Anything is good for me and sorry in advance for having to work around my age restriction.

I guess we could do Andretti's again then. What about on the 26th? I am tapped out cash wise until after the 15th plus the 26th gives everyone a chance to get together just before Barber so we can work out the details on who is meeting who and bringing what and such.

Sounds like a good idea. I will not know until about a week before the 26th if I can make it, I usually travel for work on Wednesdays. If I can make it, I will.

Travis, I just threw the date out there. If you want to change it to Tuesday or Thursday or even Monday, Sunday or Friday of that week then by all means lets do it. Whatever days works for everyone else works for me

If we do have a meet the week before we head to Barber, we need to do it at a place where we can talk, and not have the noise and distraction of a place like Andretti's. Just a thought.
