Exclamation Georgia RX-8 Club monthly meet

EDIT:Georgia RX-8 Club Monthly Meet

We have decided on the location for the August Monthly Meet. Nothing new really, our usual haunt. It seems to work, and it is kinda central to our spread out group. Join us if you can!

When:
Friday, August 25th
Where: Andretti Speed Lab in Alpharetta
Time: 6:30 PM until you've had enough

EDIT: The first Georgia RX-8 Club Monthly Meet

When:June 21, 2006,
Where:Andretti Speed Lab in Alpharetta
Time: 6:00 PM until you've had enough

Well, in the ongoing effort to get more involvement in our area, the idea of a monthly meet for food, beverage of choice, and socialization has been brought up. It seems that other local groups in other states have monthly gatherings, and do so to some level of success. So I thought we should try it out, since it seems that we have not done much as a group lately, especially if a track is not involved.

We could always make the location rotate, but the date should be a pretty consistent thing, to allow for people to plan their time around it, and show up if they can. It would probably be best to do it during the week, to avoid interfering with peoples schedule on the weekend, and would need to be somewhere between Dallas and Flowery Branch, since I think that is the vast difference between our local owners. If we meet at a restaurant or place like that, then it would make it very easy, just show up, no prep involved, making people more likely to come hang out.

So lets have some ideas about where to meet, days of the week that are better for you, and meet times that are good for you.

Most days during the week are better for me, Mondays usually suck, and Wednesdays are best, since I am usually in town, and not too busy at that time of the week. I get off work at 4, since I get in early, so meeting time will not be an issue for me. We could do our first one at something like Dave & Busters, there are two that I know of, one in Marietta, and one in Duluth. We could also all meet up at Mazcare, provided Chaz is ok with it, and then pick a place to go eat from there. Just ideas, anyone else have any ideas or opinions, I would love to hear them, and they will all be entertained, so don't hold back.

See, I'd prefer weekends to weekdays. Less traffic and more time.

I think Andretti's would be a good location for each meet. We do not always have to drive the karts and they have good food (and beer) that everyone seemed to enjoy the last time we met there. It also has been the location for our largest gather that I am aware of.

I have come to the conlusion that you will encounter traffic at any given time anywhere around Atlanta. If it isn't because of the sheer volume of cars it will be because of road construction or traffic lights that live up to their name.

I dont want to rush things, since this topic just came up today, and not everyone has had a chance to chime in, but IMO we should try to schedule a first monthly meet, see how many people will show up, and just use Andretti's as the inaugural location, and see how it goes, those that show up, as a group can discuss the idea of different locations, or one for the sake of simplicity. Just a thought, it seems that a lot of the owners around here are all for it if they are told when and where.

Great idea whose time has come. (?) My .02:

1) Weekdays should be better attended. Just cuz there's less to do on a school night. Mid to late week works best for me. (W,Th,F).

2) Eats are always good. As long as the eats are good (dont even suggest Waffle House). A restaurant with a LARGE parking lot is certainly better. I think places like Dave and Busters, and Andrettis would be fine for special events. Their detractors, however, would probably limit the time we hung out as a group with our cars. A regular restaurant would be cool (Cracker Barrel, Outback, Fridays...)

3) To be continued..

I agree about weekdays, and also toward the end of the week. My weekends are always so busy, and usually don't have time for anything else, I figure most people are the same way.

Good point about all of the distractions at places like D&B and Andretti. I am up for changing it every month, I think it will add variety, and keep it form becoming static.

June 21st sounds good to me, the 14th sounds good too. Hell, I'm single and have DVR on my satellite so any weekday is fine with me as long as I know a day or two in advance so I will know to leave extra food out for my dogs.

lets shoot for the 21st, I am on vacation the 14th, and would really like to be there for the first one of our monthly meets.

selfish, maybe, but I enjoy getting together with other 8'ers.

Sounds good. I think I should be able to come. I would definetely feel out of place though because I am only 16. But, Dave and Buster's in Duluth is DEFINETELY the best place for me. It's all of 10 minutes away from my house.

I don't know where Andretti's is. I assume it's somewhere in Alpharetta or Marietta somewhere.

Andretti's is on Highway 9, just north of Holcomb Bridge in Roswell/Alpharetta. It is on the right hand sinde of the road if you are heading north on Highway 9. And dont worry about being the youngest, we don't gather because we are all the same age, but because we have the same car. Starkey will be glad to not be the youngest anymore though.

I am going to wait until Friday this week before saying that the 21st is a go, but right now it looks good enough that we can gather at least 5 or 6 of us, and that aint bad for the first of what I hope to be many monthly meets.

Thanks L8,

I have a ton of stealth work done to the car. I have well over $20,000 into it. I am curious to see if what other mods people have done...

Looking forward to the meet

I think that puts you at the top of the money spent catagory. A bunch of us have done a good bit of work to the car, mine looks almost stock, I like it that way. Val and Marietta 8 have the MS angle covered, and covered well. Most of us are more geared to performance type stuff, and anyhting to make it go around a track circuit a little faster. Should be fun to meet some new folks.

Mstyles,
I know its not hard to spend a lot of money modding the car, but geez $20k. I can't wait to see it!!! How about showing us a list of what you have done so I will not be in as much shock when I see the car in person.

What time is good for everyone to meet, 6:00, or does it need to be earlier or later?

then maybe we can say to arrive anytime after 6, and we will be there until we decide to leave, and that will be on an individual basis, stay as long as you can.
