Still need to get some pics, but got my RX8 back from my FL roadtrip. Absolutly love it so far! Couple quick questions.... one is the Mazda on roswell rd (HW 9) alright to go to.. have to get one of my tail lights replaced due to the moisture issue stuff and wanted to hear about experience from the different dealers (also do ya'll know if they order a new tail or is it just a gasket)?

Where can I order a haynes style manual for the RX8 (like having one of those on my car so I can know how to take apart and look at anything on the car)? Last question since ya'll live in the same climate as me... can I run 5W-30 synthetic or should I still to the 5W-20 castrol they use at the dealerships next time I go in? 5W-20 seems really thin especially in the hot weather, but a newbie to rotaries, thanks!

Hey man welcome to the 8 club! Well the best place to get your 8 serviced is Mazcare in marrietta by charlie!! Dealers will tell you to put 5w20 because of EPA standards but the best oil to put in it is 20w50 Valvoline or Castrol. You can talk to most people that build and race rotaries heck Scott down at Mazsport uses nothing but that weight oil on all the cars he has. I ran 20w50 in mine even b4 I went FI!!

They replace the complete unit.

Great question. When you locate one, let us know. I'd love to have one myself.

Like x-attack, I run 20w50 and I'm not FI.

August 9-10 would be Road Atlanta with NASA. That would be a good trip for you. If you like to spectate and hang out at a great track or even better, bring that turbo to the track and run with the gang. You living in Savannah should be a no brainer to join us at Roebling Road but that will be next season.

Thanks guys! I just spoke with Allan over at Mazcare and he said they use the thicker 10W-40 Valvoline, so I can see why you turbo guys need the even thicker stuff with all the heat generation and to protect all the seals correctly.

On the search for a service manual now...

And I'll def try to make it out for the RoadAtlanta event since I only live 20min or so away.. not sure about the AL one.

Ask Charlie at Mazcare what he runs in his 8. Unless he has changed in the last couple months, he's running 20w50.

Silver: Cool, yea Allan said they would fit me in tomorrow morning over at Mazcare... so I'll make sure to get the low down on all that (between the 10W-40 and 20W-50). Sure both would be good, just ready to get rid of that 5W-20.

x-attack: Where is mazsport located?

Also, I called roswell mazda and they are doing my one tail next week.. so after that should be good for a bit. Car seems to be opening up somemore... think the guy before me babied it alot so getting the build up out of it. Allan at Mazcare told me the auto's especially build it up so to run it harder, since I'm sure most people with autos don't use the tip/paddles much. I do.. I think they're pretty cool.

Cool, thanks!

Have ya'll had any of the GA dealerships hassle you for the oil weight change? Just curious since sometimes I might have to goto the dealership with the car and just worried for if anything ever breaks. I know different dealerships come across differently regarding when people do their own oil change and/or add a fluid different from the manual.

I know a warranty can't be voided unless proven, but trying to get some information before going against the manual. Also do ya'll know if the Valv they use at Mazcare is the straight oil or VR1 stuff? My dad use to run Valv VR1 in some of his cars and said he liked it alot, so I know the Valvoline is good stuff.

Not sure which they use at Mazcare. Just keep your receipts for having the work done at Mazcare. Charlie is well known by the dealers for his quality work.

And if he is squeezing you in tomorrow morning, tell Alan congrats on getting married (he just got back this week). And tell them Dano (me) said they better not be bumping my work so they can squeeze some newbie (you) in.

(I am kidding of course, but I was there today and left my miata there for a few days to have some stuff checked out. I cant pick it up for a couple days, so no rush on my part.) Bring Boo a dog bone - such a cool dog.

Sensor is fine now. 0 records on the little track beast, so occasionally have certain parts/systems diagnosed. Timing belt/water pump this time. All appears to be healthy

Next up - wheels and tires. Time to get a better setup.

Hey guys, having trouble creating an account through the garx8 club site. Can one of ya'll have an admin email me. I created my account, but never got an email to activate it so it's just pending.

d: Glad the miatas doing good, didn't get a chance to stop in this week so going next week. I saved you from the newbie attack this week.

NASA ?: What's it cost to come in and spectate. Probably gonna be a while before I can actually race, but would enjoy coming out to see some of ya'll. Need to hear some exhausts and get some opinions on some mods. *grins*

NASA-SE: Website

Not considered racing unless you advance out of HPDE (High Performance Driving Environment). You start off with an instructor in the car with you in HPDE 1 then in HPDE2 you go Solo. I HPDE 3 you get to pass anywhere on track with point-by and in HPDE 4 you can pass anywhere with or without point-by. Then you can advance to being an instructor or Time Trials. The next step is a racing license and participating in the racing events and all of this goes on the same weekend.

Cost around $280 - $350 range depending on the track if you are driving and not an instructor. To spectate, you can get in for nominal fee. Can't remember but I think it's $15 or $20. dbright007 will straighten me out I'm sure.

Tomorrow, July 5th, I'm headed over to Road Atlanta to watch TrackAddict run with the BMW club. He is instructing. You are welcome to come by if you like. I don't think there is a charge to get in. This is similar to NASA except there are no racing events. This is another alternative you may be interested in. Like NASA, you will have an instructor with you when starting out and I think the price is similar but I think you get more track time.

OK, that's three post in a row... I'm out!
