then all the fabbed parts and such... doesnt the total swap cost in the range of $20k? and does that include all the other various parts required to help get that power to the wheels successfully? My opinion is that this guy would be better off getting a turbo/supercharger for the 300-400 range and spending a bit on driving lessons. You can kill yourself with the stock hp (not easy... but can happen). As a teen, you dont need to be looking at that much power most likely. Even in your early 20's. I do realize there are exceptions sometimes, it is rather rare.
As for the saving up thing, you'll be saving for a while most likely. Many on here make rather good livings and still couldn't consider affording that kind of project, though if you can manage it, I applaud you. Keep in mind your terrible gas mileage and if you even want to pass emissions.

honestly, and relative to most cars in general, the 8 doesnt have much power at all. it is a very easy to drive first car. in comparison, ive driven higher hp and torque cars so it doesnt really compare, BUT all in all, the 8 doesnt have much power at all.
That rhymes... because i used the same word...lol.

+1!....soooo sad i ran into another 8 owner, and he asked me where i can get another rotor, he sed his friend put 2 rotors into his 8 and he wanted to do the same thing, and i told him our cars are already a twin rotor, and he told me he thought we only had 1!!! then he goes on tellin me where can he get a 3 rotor cus he wants more power and that hes willin to spend 5k for an engine swap with a 3 rotor! and i told him dude, an engine swap for a 3 rotor is gonna cost a LOT more then 5k, then the light turned green...

haha ok cause im 18 years old doesnt mean **** and who the hell cares if im in high school still like really and also i do know what a 26b engine is if i didnt why would i be talking about getting one? i want to keep my car rotary and i want the best i can get for it and there is no better rotary engine then a 26b i know most of my **** and im not dumb and now that ive looked into this more im probably goign to get a 20b cause it will probably work better in my car and be a lot easyer to get and etc. but just because im in high school still and im still young it doesnt mean **** and who the hell said i was going to get my engine swapped out right away? im not im setting a goal for myself and my car and im determined to get to it. i mean you guys can talk all the **** you want but point is its just talk and you dont really know anything about me so keep it to yourself. its really dumb how you talk **** but know nothing about me. some of the best racers today have been racing before they where even in high school so it shows how much you know about an 18 year old.
The thing is, that the 4-rotor is just about the biggest baddest rotary engine ever made, and it's more expensive than I think you realize. You have to consider what is realistic, not just for an 18 year old, but for anyone, my father can't afford anything anywhere near a 4-rotor and he makes 250k a year.
Consider the ramifications to adding an unfindable engine. You have to basically personally know one of the mechanics who built it because no one knows how to service or fit that engine, and no one has ever done it to an '8.
Also, saying you want 800hp is totally unrealistic as well. Consider that most NASCAR cars don't put down that much power, and that 800hp is enough to tear your axle off if you're not careful. Also remember that it gets under 5 miles per gallon and with gas at 4 bucks a pop thats a lot of money really fast.
No offense, but you are coming across as kind of a wannabe showoff badass (not saying you are, just saying thats how you seem)

For the next person who asks this question.
3 rotor in an s5 rx7 has cost me $40k over five years. It would be harder in an rx8 as you have to upgrade drive train unless going na. I put out 450 to the road in street trim. Its more than enough. I'm thinking about dropping it back to 400 currently. With 450 I can get wheel spin at over 100k's. I had max power tuned for a week. In that week I went through a set of rears, destroyed a twin plate clutch, twisted both drive shafts, and could wheel spin in every gear. That was with 765rwhp. It was an expensive lesson to learn; nearly 8k to repair the damage done by my ego; and the car was almost undriveable. I've raced on and off my whole adult life, and I've never been as scared as I was in that week. If you want more out if you rx8, there are excellent super charger kits available. But even they are not cheap. If you're getting 350 rwhp, then consider it more than enough. Focus on breaks and suspension.
