Mark, this was the test done you had remembered. Done at TR's facility with their cars but by C/D.

It seems most feel Dunlop ZI's get faster after the first few heat cycles or wear. Not sure about other tires but the Kooks worked first time on the car after some brief parking lot scrubbing.

So with the new BFG being tested today at NOLA what are your thoughts. The 255 is about $40 more than the 245, and the ZII. But if it is 1 second faster as some have been stating then it's worth looking at..

Contingency...

Anyone want to buy some brand new ZII's

It looks like they won't be available until middle of April or later. I guess I have to at least start out on the z2

It'sggoing to be an expensive season.

Just to add a bit more detail, Andy Hollis had the opportunity to test the DZII and Rival on a 2.2 mile road course during a private test. This was done on a MX5 Cup car and he reported having 10 laps on each. I'm sure Andy will follow-up with additional details as time allows as they've had a busy couple of days in New Orleans.

The DZII and Rival have not been tested head to head on a Solo course yet, but I'm sure it won't take long once the Rivals hit the market in late-February, early March.

the ZIIs feel like they are round lead bars, can't imagine the Rival weighing even several lbs more

based on the pics the R1R tire pressure at the Rival testing was way high too fwiw (only center 1/3 was worn, that helps make your tire look like a hero ), funny how people just open wide and chew without bothering to look and see what they're being spoon fed ...

.

Wholeheartedly agreed. The fact this tire shootout was sponsored by BFG puts some questions in my mind - I'd take the results with a grain of salt and wait for an independent test before coming to any conclusions. Not to say the Rival isn't the top dog, I just get suspicious when the tire manufacturer w/strong vested interest chooses the courses, cars, tires, etc.

I figured here would be a better place than the will it fit thread.
I'm looking for 17x9 wheels. The most common offset I'm finding is +30. I feel like that's slightly too aggressive for track wheels. Opinions?

apparently the weights have been updated more accurately on TR now and the Rival isn't the as heavy as all the early ZOMG baloney reported, looks about halfway between the R1R and Z2 in 17"

to be fair, if I sitting on a plane returning from a just completed wine & dine bash the living crap out of them tire test event I'd probably be all hyped up on e-posting steroids too ..

It's hard to compare to Dunlop's because they are Only 7/32. I wonder what the Dunlop's weigh at the same depth?

According to the 2013 rule book my Mazdatrix front lip is illegal for STX. If I show up to race with it on, do you guys think I'll catch any flak? In the Fresno region that I run there are ~ 6-7 competitors in STX.
