The STX thread!
In otherwords, it will be lighter than an S2000 and more powerful than a Miata. The answer should be clear ....
Well, I just validated my decision not to attend nats this year. Latest dyno (Dynojet) has my car making 172hp/121 TQ. That's down 40 hp, although on a different dyno. Fresh plugs, good coils, recent de-carbon, good air filter & cat. I knew there was a problem when I was out-dragged by an STR MX-5 at a recent pro event.
Motor is dying. Sad, because I'm more competitive locally than I've ever been.
Now need to decide if I dump a bunch of cash at Pineapple over the winter. And if I do, do I stay in STX, go to (hopefully) DSP, or SM.

Simmons
just broke a finger nail, guess I'm out too ...
seriously, dyno runs on this car are as reliable as a Yugo. Go make a second gear WOT log on a level road and send it to me along with your tire size.

Yes, I can compete at this power level (as I said above, I am competing quite well locally, and did OK at the Tour as well), but it's not worth the time & money to me to drive to nats in a car that is obviously underpowered. Rather save the money and put it towords a new motor.
Thanks for the offer Team, I'll take a log some time this weekend.

Has anyone run the Nitto NT05's. The RS3's have gone up in price to about $225 for the 18" wheels and the Nitto's are about $170 and 200 tread wear. I am only competing locally for the rest of the year so I want them to be good but I don't need the best.
I am saving up for Hoosiers if the Rx8 gets moved to DSP next year

If it's hot out they will be decent, if it's cold or rainy forget it. I ran them a few years ago during some track days and they were great, I ran them at a few autox's and while they were good. The RS3, Star Spec, R1R's are better.
They won't last nearly as long. The RS3s are a better value wrt to miles/runs, but they need heat to work. The R1Rs are pretty much the opposite extreme. The Dunlops are probably your best bet regardless of cost; long life, work well in cool, ok in rain, good in heat ut will need to be sprayed when it is very hot.

Anyone here with experience on the Kumho XS? How do they work in cooler conditions? I have a track test coming up and was thinking of trying these, but temps will be pretty mild here by then (likely around 60F), so maybe I'm better off going with the Dunlops or Toyos.

So now that it's being considered to move to DSP, everyone wants to come play with me in SP? I see how it is...
I wish I made it out to Nationals this year either way. Would be nice to see what everyone else comes up with for SP trim.

I still vote that the RX8 will be too slow for DSP in Lincoln..
Places like Dixie or other transitional style courses I think the RX8 might have a chance, but on the concrete in Lincoln, forget it..
I hope someone will prove me wrong.

For this reason, most people won't use the XS for strickly autocross. In my opinion, the XS is more of a track tire.
