Like some other have already said, if you want to learn to drive, stick with the 8. If you want to APPEAR to know how to drive, while in fact learning nothing about real driving abilities, get the Evo. It will make you appear to be an amazing driver.

Every person I know who actually knows anything about driving HATES the Evo. Once you actually know what you're doing behind the wheel, the Evo becomes the most boring car ever, because all it does is fix your mistakes for you, not allowing you to learn anything about car control. Whereas with the 8, it will let you know when you're making mistakes and you better know how to fix them youself. But if this car will never see track time, go with the evo, because the 8 won't make you happy street-racing your friends.

Sorry, I have to disagree. The 8 is one of the most forgiving 'sports cars' I've ever driven. Anybody can drive an 8 moderately well. That said, it's a fun car for new drivers since it has an easy learning curve. If you want to be a really good driver try driving something with no power steering and no ABS, or karts

Yes, it's forgiving compared to other cars. But since this thread is comparing it to an Evo, the Evo is easier by far, and requires far less skill. But I don't disagree with you that our car is one of the easiest cars to drive hands down.

your in rx8 club site most of the time people will say buy the 8 got to evo club and they'll tell you buy the evo. It's all up to you which one you want.

I was in the same boat as you when I got my 8.

I looked at Evo's, STi's, G35's, and 350's.

I really enjoyed the Evo's and STi's.

With the Evo I learned the Brembos from the factory had an issue with fading to pink. The clear coat on the carbon fiber wing was very prone to turning yellow and cracking. On top of that, I have had friends that have owned Mitsu's and they break, break, break, and break.

The G35 and 350 was very torquey. It felt very heavy in the corners which I did not like. The interior bits in the 350 felt very cheap IMO. The interior in the G35 was nice but not for me. Another issue at the time was the ignition coils on the VQ motors. It was a known issue that they died around 50k miles and at around $135 a pop not a very cheap item to replace like the ones on the 8. If you have the dealer do it, your looking at close to $1000.

The STi, fun as well, loved the boxer motor, really didnt have any problems with the car.

The Evo and the STi both felt like they took some of the experience away from the driver. But I will say they are fun to drive from a launch, it just hooks up and goes.

In the end I knew I wanted a 8. I loved the interior, the sound of the rotary, styling, and driveability.

The ultimate deal for me was before I purchased I noticed I saw all of these cars thousands of times around the Dallas area all the time. I wanted something more unique. I knew it was as fast as most but that doesnt matter, in due time....

LOL plus when I met my girlfriend she asked me if I liked the rotary so it was pretty much love at that point.

Man oh man the guy asked a simple question EVO or RX8 and he wants to mod..... I happen to own both an EVO 9 and an RX8 with a Turbo. If you really want to get in to buying mods get the EVO you will get a much faster better handling car sharper steering that can eat the RX8 for lunch every day of the week. The RX8 is so much more expensive to mod and honestly besides a turbo will not do much for the RX8 as far as speed. On the other hand RX8 is a much smoother ride much more comfortable for daily driving or a long drive. It has a much more comfortable seating position, nice interior, low engine noise with fairly decent handling. to do it all over again I would have left the RX8 stock and just enjoy driving it. So end this long speech you need to know what you want to get out of the car before you decide what you want.

evo stomps the rx8 at the track. whoever posted they were keeping up with an evo with street tires that evo driver must have sucked *****. sure the rx8 has a lot of potential and is fast with a good driver, but you really can't compare the two cars.
if you're lookin for bang for the buck, get the evo. full exhaust, boost controller=a good +50whp and r-comp tires for the track. don't even need to touch the suspension or brakes. too easy and cheap.

There are plenty of forums for that. This isn't one of them. He isn't asking about which is a better race car. He isn't asking which is better for AutoX. He isn't even asking which is better for street racing.

And since most people haven't apparantly read his post what he wants to know is if an RX-8, "being totally souped up" can take an evo.

The answer is yes.

No one ever said mod-for-mod.

The OP asked about a "totally souped up" RX-8 which can mean different things to different people. For me, if I had my way with modding an RX-8, I'd run a 20B 3-rotor setup along with an appropriately sized turbo (GT35r). Have a conservative tune that makes 500whp on pump gas, and 600+whp on race gas. Run a full coil-over suspension and drive around 24/7 on some wide sticky gumball tire like the NT01 or RA-1. Would an Evo be an issue with an RX-8 like this? 99% of the time - probably not, but I've seen some of the beasts that have come out of Buschur and AMS...

To the OP, both are great cars. I've driven both and I own an RX-8. Decide what's best for your needs and make your decision. You can't go wrong either way!

You are right souped up can mean very different things, what souped up car with the engine dismantled and parts changed with a big turbo straped on will not beat a stock EVO. The fact is to get impressive performance from the RX8 though it is do able but can be very expensive I don't think most people expect to take apart the engine to change the rotors to make a street driven RX8 faster then an a stock EVO. The EVO however is very cheap to mod and you can get some really strong gains with a few things strapped on.
OP the EVO is better for moding but you would have to be prepared to give up the beauty the RX8 has..... I think there are not to many cars out there after 4 years people still stare and say wow that is a nice looking car..

I posted that my modified NA RX8 with NTO1 tires kept up with an apperently stock evo. I left out the fact that a heavily modified evo stomped me at the same track 3 months early. Both drivers appeared good and were in the experianced groups, ran good lines and pushed the cars through the turns.

I thought my point was clear but I will clear it up for you. A Stock evo is faster then a modified RX8 but IMO an RX8 is more fun to drive.

I never said the RX-8 would be as cost-effective to mod as an Evo, just that if I ever decided to mod mine, that would be the route I'd go and the money I'd invest.

FWIW, an RX-8 in this state of tune, would be able to run with C6 Z06s and Vipers.

^Yeah your right, The last few AutoX's i've been too, all the other RX8's that have racing slicks, and shocks, are only about .9 seconds slower than the z06's.

Autocross is a whole 'nother ball game - but yeah, a top B-stock driver can sometimes straight time Vipers/Z06s/GT3s in Super Stock. Carter Thompson did that at the Atlanta NT this year.

However, what I was referring to was the straight-line performance of an RX-8 with a turbocharged three-rotor set-up.
