Rx8 or evo?

Hello, i am the current owner of a stock rx8 and was wondering if it had the potential of an evo after being totally souped up, or should i just go with an evo and instead, this might be a stupid question but i need some advice on which car to start putting my money into

great first post .
What do you want to spend ?
The evo can be made a lot quicker than an 8 with less money than you would spend to make an 8 as quick as a stock evo .

wow such an open question....yea not a great first posting...

what are you trying to do with the car? track, autocross, drift, rally, street racing, fly to the moon? they are definitely very very different cars with totally different strengths and weakness's. point out some of the things you want to achieve with the car and then it's gonna be alot easier for people to say if the car can do it.

if all you care about is speed and burning rice go with the evo

if you're more of a mature person who really doesn't care about drag racing and impressing your friends that have civics, go with the rx8

You could probably keep up with one with street tires on the track if you put on some sticky tires. I was keeping up with one with my KDWs. Pulled away between 1-2 seconds a lap. Not sure if it was stock or not but it had a funky-*** wing.

As far as straight-line power, the RX8 has a ways to go.

God another one of these posts.

Okay, let me say it politely before your thread is raped by everyone on this site.

An RX-8 is a DRIVERS car. It is not the fastest in a straight line. You can "soup" it up but yes an evo driver will spend less money and be faster than you. If you own an 8 just have fun with the car and dont worry about street racing (especially under 80 MPH :]) The 8 is a very fun car to drive with pride and class. An evo (i heard) has a very cheap interior and does not feel as fast as the 8 does ( as ive heard). Ive yet to test drive an evo for myself because i dont see the point when i love my 8 just as much as anyone else does. I drive my car to the limits sometimes, but not in a straight line.

Buy an 8 and you wont regret it.

I was driving my rx8 with just about every NA thing done including 245/40/18 nito nto1 tires and I was faster then an evo in the turns at thunderhill raceway in willows california but he pulled me down the straights and had about a 1-2 second better overal lap time. The other driver had more experiance then me but apeared stock. Like everyone says, the EVO can be much faster for much less but it is not as fun and is just a fast sedan.

If you want a pure sports car with a back seat buy an 8. If you want a go fast sedan buy an evo.

I am an evo fanatic. I also believe that depending on which evo you are shooting for could affect the decision. The evos have a real rough hard ride compared to the 8. You feel like your in a race car in it and thats really all. Yea it has 4 doors but it just doesnt feel like something I would enjoy driving alllllllllll the time. The RX-8 is comfortable and smooth, plus you don't drive a damn grocery getter ya know? But like everyone else said, it depends on which way you wanna go as far as what type of racing. Trust me the civics will be waaaaaaayyyyyyy impressed with it haha

people that ask these questions should just stick with their souped up econo-boxes...they don't understand the appeal of the 8 outside of good looks and probably never will

high school called.

it wants to apologize for failing society.

Having experienced both: the Evo is the better car. I don't care though. The RX8 is MY favorite car.

No, no, no. Everyone should experience a car that masks ALL their mistakes, so that when they drive a real handful of a car, they don't know what to do.

oversteer?! WHAT"S THAT?! OMG!!!

The EVO is a superior car in EVERY SINGLE CATEGORY...

Track
Drag
Room
MPG
Resell
Affordability to mod
Overall potential
Etc. etc.

The ONLY reason to buy a RX8 over a Evo is if you like uber cool RWD burnout or you simply don't like the look of an RX8. (Or in my case you have either owned one or own a DSM)

The Evo and the RX-8 are two completely different cars. It's kind of an apples and oranges comparison. The are two different cars with two different designs. The 8 is incredibly fun, but it's going to require a lot more finesse, whereas with an Evo all you really have to know how to do is step on the gas. So if all you are looking for is power then get an Evo.

Buy the Evo.

Then proceed to smash the RX8 you currently own into tiny pieces.

Use some of the larger pieces as a pedestal.

Place your new Evo on the pedestal.

This was a really insightful post. You were on the debate team, weren't you, with such strong reasoning skills? Why is he smashing his RX? Why is the EVO on a pedestal? oh forget it.

Woah so much hate...

I've come from an evo 9 so i might be able to give some insight.

evo is faster in every way. If what you are after is good times on a track etc then get the evo.

I had it for less than a year and i got bored pretty quickly. I mean yeah its nice knowing that ur prolly faster that most cars on the road but after a while that feeling just dulls and at the end of the day, its just a lancer.

The AWD makes you feel safe and u can really push it when taking corners, acceleration is great but down low, the evo doesnt have all that much torque.

I havent regretted going to the 8 coz altho its slower, like what these ppl are saying, its a lot more fun and u feel like you are driving a sports car rather than a fast 4 door. Ride quality in an evo is also a lot harsher than stock rx8 ride so if u do plan on making the switch be prepared for that

my 2 cents. Good luck either way dude
