no, its not.

koni challenge use the naturally aspirated renesis and a stock body, with a roll cage of course.

the grand am uses a full tube frame, and they use turbo 3 rotors.

I'd love to see a turbo 3 rotor run in ALMS.

why cant the rx8 make 2/3s of that? that'd be a really nice 280hp. (yes i know its a race car and it doesnt have emissions equipment etc)

Denny, you must not have heard of the Japanese tuner shop that has made 320whp out of a N/A renny? I'll have to look it up where I read and saw that...but I did read it.

Anyways, I wish BERG would give an update...just want to see when they plan on making their Grand-Am debut.

Hey guys, still here and working away... My customers have become somewhat disenchanted with Grand Am and the rule making process. Not to mention the costs involved in ST racing. As it is now the RX8 is at an extreem disadvantage to the fuel economy of the Honda, Cobalt, VW, and Scooby-doo. We have shelved the GA program for the time being and will be focusing on IMSA lites for 09. The RX8 will still be out there and we plan to race it at the upcoming 4hr at WGI in two weeks and then again at the 13hr at VIR in Nov. We tested the car at Nelson ledges a month ago and figured a few things out and feel very strong about the cars's ability and endurance. For 09 we are looking at do select GA events but not the full season. For now I have three chassis, one complete and two ready to be built if anyone is interested.

Well, that renny was running a custom intake manifold, mechanical TB, ceramic seals, MoTec ECU, and a bunch of other goodies.

But yeah, the costs of Grand-Am racing is not cheap. And the ST program is the entry level for the series...imagine the cost of a DP program...

BERG, we'll be looking for you. Now I hope you never do better than our cars on the track...haha. But as a RX8 owner, it's always nice to see them out there!

Thumbs up

Well we made it through! 4 hrs and no problems. Ran times faster then most of the Koni ST field, 2:12 was my best. My co-driver/wife was bit slower. Had a great time and the car is a pleasure to drive. I must admit that we were using a nonstandard gearbox that gave us a reliability advantage but the ratios were less then optimal and way worse the stock. Front springs were also a test case and they were WAY to high a rate, but live and learn... We will have them changed for VIR. Unfortunately the video never got started and we didn't even take any pics but co-driving with my wife at a one day event, only an hour and a half from home and having no problems... Can't ask for much more then that!
