Mazdaspeed Roll cage?!?
Ok, I did a search and couldn't find any other info on this with the exception of the Mazdaspeed RX8 NR-A.
I was looking at the Japan MS site and found a picture marked "new" with the racing seats.
I nearly fell out of my chair when I looked closer to see what appears to be a factory roll cage.
Any one else catch this or are my search skills in need of a tune-up

Seats are naff, but a cage?
If it stiffens the car even more and doesn't cost 2K....
Then again, a bolt in cage is really of marginal worth anyway. Still looks cool tho!

Many classes of drag racing require a cage if your vehicle runs in the 14 second range and 100, or more, mph in the 1/4 mile. As such, a few tweaks and we all need cages if we expect to enter santioned classes.

My contact in japan says that , Yes you can purchase the roll cage seperatly, it runs for $800.00 USD and the pads are $70.00 USD. the cage is part of the NR-A one make race package for the RX-8 in Hiroshima (A.K.A "RX8 party race" ). also just so you know the cage is not designed to work with cars equipped with the curtain airbags or sunroof. the rest of the package includes F/R brake pad set, sports radiator, oil cooler kit, F/R pulling hooks. total package price is somewhere around $4000 USD. I am having my friend take pictures of the roll cage seperatly for viewing.

My friend is visiting mazdaspeed today to try to get pictures and find the answers to your questions. As far as he can tell it is a 6 point cage made of 2-1/2" steel. but again he is checking. it does not come fully assembelled he was told as well.

I've seen the cage before as well except I saw it in red. Super cool but sooo not good for the street. You'll need to get rid of the air bags or at least unplug the harness under the seat. I think they make two versions of the cage. One is like the one pic posted the other is more open in the rear. The price isn't that bad and it's probably a bolt in with some modifications of coarse. I'd get one but it would make the car too stiff for street driving.

That cage is useless, and makes the car useless. It offers very little protection, kills the side airbags, makes getting in the rear seats even more difficult.
If you want a cage in a street car, at least do it well. The point is protection.
