Question How to stop wheel Hop...

This is what I found online about wheel hop:
Definition: An undesirable suspension characteristic in which a wheel (or several) moves up and down so violently that it actually leaves the ground. Wheel hop can be caused by many problems, including excessive unsprung weight, insufficient shock damping, or poor torsional axle control.
Sound about right? So what do you guys do to stop wheel hop? and how bad can it be if you keep doing it over and over?

Very bad if you keep on doing it.

Why would you want to do this in your automatic anyhow?

I don't know this to be true first hand, but I've been told by a couple different autoxers, that wheel hop in the RX-8 is reduced by switching to koni dampers. I recently purchased a set for my b-stock car, and they should be on the car within the next 2 weeks.

"reduced" is the word...definitely not eliminated. Wheel hop seems to depend on a number of variables, which I can't account for or explain. For example, the surface we usually run on, it seldom happens...last event, it did, and was pretty bad, requiring to feather up to a speed where the '8 doesn't have enough grunt to spin the tires...like about 5-6mph or so

Any of the engineers out there want to explain why the RX8 has this problem? Too low of durometer bushings? Some geometry issues? (like the same geometry that causes the rear steer/throttle on push off corner)...

Reason: bad technique.

You could replace all rubber bushings in the rear suspension with delrin (you would have to have custom made) and the would kill wheel hop.

need a stiffer rear swaybar.

I haven't had wheelhop in the past year and have been to many autox'es and HDPEs as well as the occasional light to light

Its caused by the fact that the car is so light and has independent rear suspension, and has high quality tires on it and has shocks setup for a smooth daily drive.

You can get rid of the wheelhop, but your also going to be trading a lot of daily-drivability.

That being said, just throw an 80lb sandbag in the trunk, when I had my subbox in there without any suspension mods I also never had any wheelhop.
