BTW, 16" rims will not fit on the MT - the brakes are too big... Even with 17s it's a rcapshoot. Smaller rims AND smaller tires will change the diameter of the wheel and will affect suspention geometry... as long as you make up for that you'll be good.
Carbon Fiber. It's the new black!

****, I totally forgot about brake clearance. I need to do rotors and pads for HPDE track sessions (late braking FTW!), so that's a biggie. Guess I'm back to 18"+ wheels . Decisions, decisions.

For HPDE all you really need to is....

install some upgraded lines...the corksport ones are cheap and work well...

replace the clutch line because its part of the same system...corksport has one that works pretty well too...

flush your brake fluid and replace with DOT4 to prevent boiling...I recommend ATE Super Blue...

while you are at it...get some speed bleeders...they work great...

get better pads...I use hawk HP+ meow...but they are squeaky like most track pads and I'm going to replace with hawk ceramics...

the stock rotors are pretty good so no need to replace them, spend your money elsewhere.

i plan turning my car into track use only.

my plans are to finish the car by the end of summer.

things i do know about drifting the rx8,

with stock suspension it is very snap happy, i agree 100%

i put adjustable coilovers on and it actully got rid of most of the snapping.

im going to put arms and a rear strut bar on to see if that changes anything.

if the rear strut makes it worse then its gone! ahhah

but ya, ill give you updates when i finish my car.

i plan on using it for drift days, 626 drift, and little comps and what not.

do u also drive a front wheel car? the center of ballance is differnnt. the hardest thing to do is to power through when you think your slipping. time, expirience, and luck will show u the way

A rear strut bar won't really help you with anything since our chassis barely have any flex. You should go with a sway bar instead.

I do drifting all the time, I also got a Monster Drift and a Drift King rating all the time. My RX-8 also pulls 0-100 in 1.2 seconds... in Need for Speed.

faint, oversteer, clutch kicks for me only work in the middle of drifts, idk why! ahhaha

i do alot of techniques to get it sideways.

i dont think theres not enough toque to just clutch kick. but i could be wrong

What do you mean you used heel-toe shifting to initiate a drift? Proper heel and toe shifting should provide a seamless downshift and nothing else. Can you please describe the technique you are using and what it does?

+1

clutch kick probably won't work since we don't have that much torque. it's also a bad idea in general in the dry..

your best bet is probably a feint (scandinavian flick) or braking drift; on ice i used braking drift which worked surprisingly well considering there's very little grip to start with.

Ok how i heel toe is come in kinda quick and brake a little bit feint have my clutch in hit the gas let it rev up drop out the clutch. it gives it a jolt and get on the gas turn in . then counter steer and smooth it out with the gas. thats how i heel toe with a combo of Feinting :] you should try it out. just to let you know im not responsible for any damages or your crashing. just becareful while your doing it. have fun!

so what you are saying is you are just doing a high rpm clutch drop and you just happen to be using a heel and toe technique to blip the throttle.

And don't worry, there is no chance of me crashing while attempting to drift on the street, parking lot, etc.

that, sir, would be a clutch kick.... the additional step of stomping on the gas while you have the clutch in is necessary cos we have no torque...

heel toe is when you are braking and tap the throttle with the same foot in order to rev match on a downshift...

That's just braking drift. Stop watching Initial D. You don't necessarily need to heel-toe to drift. Takumi was driving a 3D AE86, not a real car with real rubbers on the road.

What happened is that you shifted weight forward as you entered a corner. This lifts the rear wheels, reducing traction, and eventually, losing it. Voila, you get oversteer.

However, to CONTINUE the drift, you need to downshift to provide the power for maintaining a drift... You can do this with or without a blip of the throttle. Not blipping will result in a shock to the powertrain..., which gives you even less traction and bigger angle.

Got it? Now go give it a try, but keep it safe and away from the public.

EDIT: I should also add that most drifting adds EPIC levels of wear and tear on your car. Don't be surprised that something from your drivetrain gets fucked up from all that non-blipping downshifting.

I recommend first mastering heel/toe so you do it right. You might not be doing it right, hence your drifting (proper heel/toe is smooth and does not send a shock into the drivetrain..., so no drift).

^ +1 proper heel toe is very smooth. if you can do it so that a passenger doesn't notice, then you can strart applying it to real conditions...

and don't bash initial d a fair amout of the material points you in the right direction even thou it may not be 100% realistic or accurate

as for understeer... the onlyway i've ever had it understeer is by being quite brutal with my steering inputs. turn the wheel too far and your understeer until enough speed is scrubbed off for the front tires to "grab", then the rear steps out
