sup guys. dam it took a while to read this thread. drifting in my 8 is easy. its stock. i am a noob to driftin though. i can do good circles...i'm going to start working on fig 8's. but i'm running out of tires. hahaha...kinda happens with driftin. someone posted that drifting scares most girls...but my girl loves going drifting. she doesnt drift yet though. were going to teach her soon. the 8 makes it easy to get comfortable with drifting off the showroom floor. its really responsive. i love drifting. its fun. i cant wait to get better. it'll be that much more fun. anyone into drifting in the nw let me know...

this guy is a little crazy i think. drifting in the rain just doesnt seem like a good idea....especially when you're drifting in circles, "on ramp, off ramp, on ramp, off ramp" lol....anyway...either way he's dam good...

Incidentally, what he is doing is not drifting. That's a good ol' powerslide. Drifting involves actually having control of your car...

how much tread life do you have with your stock tires? I'd stick with that for now and after that, maybe get some crappy used tires for your stock wheels. that way, it won't be so much of a heartache after you curb them...
I personally, would look for something light and cheap for wheels, here's my llist:
enkei nt03+m - 17X9.5 (44mm) or 18X8.5 (38mm)
g-games 99b - a little pricey but can't go wrong with rays
agency power - either subaru or evo offset
rota P45R - 18X9.5 not the lightest but it's cheap
rota torque - 17-18X 8-9.5 (offered in different offsets)
rota tarmac 3 - 18X8 (35mm)
axis halo - similar to AP but has a higher offset (44mm, I think)
flik ftd - 17X8 (45mm) 18.5 lbs
I didn't like the lip/deep dish look for my 8, so I didn't include any of those.
now, for tires... anything with a hard/stiff sidewall is a good candidate. I just shop for what's cheap and who currently has a good deal on tires. I would suggest you to try several and pick the one the suits you best. but for starters, I would recommend the RT-615 azenis.

the rx8 offset is 48+. The hub bore is 67.1
the 350z offset it 35-42. And the hub bore is 66.1

there's nothing wrong with using a lower offset as long as your not super slammed, lower offset will push your tire/wheel out (flushed) and you can use hub centric rings for aftermarket wheels.
and another thing, don't get anything from les schwuck! hehehe
go to america's tires/discount tires, they're all over the seattle/tacoma area.
do you log on to nwdrifting.com? the webmaster (bob) owns a shop up there, I think it's still called drift-office, they host drift events every once in a while. talk to those guys, they might be of some help.

thanks dj. and i never buy anything from les schwab. i just called to ask about the wheels. so you're saying that the offset doesnt make a big difference? dam i shouldnt have passed up those wheels...

to be on the safe side, don't go wider than 9" and lower than 35mm, that way you can lower your car without having to roll your fenders. but that doesn't mean you can slam it to the ground (...and why would you wanna do that anyways)

drifting = 2 thumbs
i usually practice drifting at my friends industrial lot since theres no trees, side rails and its all pavement and grass off the side. IMO drifting is by far the best racing out there right now. I'm planning to go practice at a real track and say good bye to illegal drifting lol.
Oh and Also, when you said shifting locking, its realy a clutch kick......quick and responsive but harsh on the trans.
