Fortunately I saw that post and got a couple phone calls warning me about Fontana being canceled. Driving up from SD to find it canceled would've been ownage.

The SD event was going well when I left, with only mild rain. I saw a bunch of LA folks rolling in, including the new Berry Evo. It was dry for most of the first run group and I had a great time driving the Lotus in SS. If the rain keeps up for the rest of the day, the car owner and I have a chance at 1 and 2 in overall PAX.

 

Casey and I showed up around 11:30, and was told by the main gate attendant that the event had been cancelled. I was certain he was joking, so we went back to check just in case...sure nuff....everything was vacant, except one weekend warrior trailor and that Jason Woodruff Dodge Dakota.

I have major race withdrawal now...and I know Casey feels the same way. Both of the girls were not interested in running in the rain, and Casey and I were not able to fix my clutch/grindage issues...show we were planning on codriving in his car today. Found out he has a screw in one of his race tires, so we even swapped one of my tires on this morning just prior to finding out the event was cancelled. Glad you guys didn't lose too much time coming up here...Did Rick KNow? It sounds like everyone else was saved the trip up here, for the most part.

 

I didn't know until I entered the gate and got the same lame story (this is after driving up Cherry looking for a place to buy a bigger umbrella!). Tough call for the organizers, but that's life. At least I got that umbrella shopping task out of the way.

yeah... I was a little pissed to have done all the auto cross "change overs" and the 45 minute drive to see that its was a no go. all well.

 

Yup, doing some calling this morning to see the extent/coverage of my extended warranty that I purchased when I bought my 8 back in 04. I will most likely take my car into Riverside Mazda, since Erica has had luck over there, and they have two Rotary mechanics (who'm actually own/race RX7's)....so, a little more trust built in there for that, and maybe they will be a little more understanding when it comes to my complaint that I can't shift when driving "agressively".

I think I will avoid the "aggressive" terminology, and just focus on "freeway" speeds and "freeway passing" ability...as the car has problems with shifts at 6k or above into 2nd, and into 4th.

Casey is thinking that 2nd and 4th share the same "slider"....maybe this is damaged, in addition to synchros....who knows?

 

...... well sorta. I said I dont know enough about the internals, but I thought they did share the same slider......
I sill vote for somehting in the master/slave system.

when we bleed the system it works great for about 2 miles. (20 maybe 30 clutch pushes). then quickly starts to fail again. this is the sign that means the most. I still dont see it being internals at this point.

seems to me street tires would be the best in rain situations. (unless the ground is just a little wet with no standing water) ??

 

yeah, I've been looking at things today, and that was one of the things I did early this morning. No, the lot was not like that, or even close...I feel bad for the PFM guys. And to be honest, those pics from 2005 don't look like fun, for either the drivers, or the workers.

I'm bummed that we didn't run....but it sounds like they will be doing a make up sometime soon...so this is good. We will get a lot of driving in very soon. The next couple events will be closer together, a definate positive.

 

They should turn one of the two March practice, 10th-11th, events in to a regular event.

 

totally agree....is that what is being recommended? I haven't checked the board since this morning.

 

If you're looking to get some driving in, why not March 3rd and 4th in SD? And why aren't you signed up for the SD tour? And what about Rick? We need to open up some trophy spots in BS for non-national champs.

what is the SD tour? Different from Solo2?

 

It's the big national event, like the pro solo but run like we normally do. Take the best of your 3 runs from each day.

We were talking about it on this thread a while back... I was suprised you entered the Pro Solo and not the National Tour. The tour is the more conventional event and would make more sense for a first timer.

Ulllose suggested that this may be the last year for the Pro, and suggested that I register if I was all interested in checking it out. I took that advice and registered, reluctantly for SM. BSP would kick my butt as well, so no real biggie....but after seeing those picks of the SM cars, it may have mad more sense for me to search for some cheap front and rear bumpers, and then pull my sideskirts and rear wing for BSP. I have a front bumper, would just need to find a rear.

I wouldn't worry about changing classes. You're likely to get a smack down in either one. Look at it as a learning experience and you'll have a good time.

I posted that link mostly because Jason Rhoades' writeup on his 240sx build is a good read. The crazy RX7s pictured are actually in SM2, so you won't have to worry about them.

I think the B-stock competition for the tour this year is even tougher. I'd be lucky to finish in the top half. At least in SM you can blame it on the car.

 

Found out this morning that I bought a 6 yr/100,000 mile extended coverage (go me) .

Called Romero Mazda and let them know that I was planning on taking my vehicle to Riverside Mazda. They asked for an explanation, and I told them that the Riverside Mazda dealer had two mechanics that own rotary engine vehicles and that I felt better about taking my vehicle there. Romero stated he could assure that they would handle my vehicle with care and that they could wave the 100 deductible on my service contract. I'm really uncertain though....as a couple of people have had some significant issues with that dealer...I had that one issue with the sunvisor, which they initially refused to cover, but then did....So, do I take it to my local dealer, since it is more convenient and right down the street.....or do I take it 20 miles from my house and rely upon rotary ownership on the part of the mechanics.....?

I am envisioning some difficulties getting a dealership to give me fair attention, as I have a lot of aftermarket parts around the transmission, and I fear the blame game as they will claim the failure is related to non-OEM parts.

I am also fearing the whole issue of having smaller parts repaired first (ie...slave or master cylinder) and having to go back repeatedly to get this fixed.

I definately am not concerned with "replicating" the problem as is often the trouble when you take a care in for service (you just can't get the car to do what you brought it in for). All I have to do, is take the service manager on a short drive....get the rpm's over 5500 and shift (cue loud Grinding noise).

Any advice/suggestions.

Like he said don't bother trying to hide in BSP, Berry, Olson and others will stomp you there just as bad. The good news is half the time the SM cars break.

The only reason to run in a half @ss setup car is to learn from it. While Prosolo may or may not be back next year the only way to make sure you get to try one is do it this year.
