Notice I was still using the old crusty one on Sun... I will save the new one for when the fast guys come to town.

Heads up everyone, the flyer for the 2-10-2007 practice is posted:

I invited a bunch of my RX-7 buddies, in an attempt to outnumber the RX-8 crew. Don't make it too easy on them...

At the last event, I was having problems with clutch slippage....lost a lot of power and accelaration throughout the course....the car felt like it was driving on ice, even though the tires had plenty of grip. Discovered that my clutch plate was gone and ordered a new ACT clutch with heavy duty pressure plate. Didn't drive the car the entire week while waiting for the part...and had a difficult time making it out to Casey's house to get the new one installed. Barely even made it up his driveway....the car just wouldn't go up the slight incline of his driveway.
Got the clutch out, and it was worn down to the bolts, the flywheel probably should have been resurfaced, but there were no places to take it on a Sunday....got the pilot bearing out with a Blind Hole Puller tool rented from Autozone, and did the reassembly.
New clutch is very touchy...I am still not used to it, but at least happy my car runs.
New Problem Car runs fine in "street/normal" driving conditions. No problems with gear engagement at all, runs fine. Running the car in "race/autocross" mode, I can not get the car to go into 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear without severe gear grindage...on upshifts, as well as on downshifts. [edit] I can get it to engage if I double clutch.....
This is very embarrasing, as well as frustrating as I am looking forward to the next event, anticipating the problems I will have out on course on that first shift up to 2nd. I have tried "autocross" mode and shifting at different points, but it doesn't seem to make a difference...shifting at 6500, or 8500...both grind.
I am going to have Erica drive it to see if she can reproduce the problem. Casey, did you have any problems getting gears to engage on your breif romp in the car?
Any ideas on the new problem?
