Great race. Nick scared me a bit when he dropped the wheel and when he let it slide but he performed a great passing move. Sucks the Porsche won, lol, but at least they brought home 2nd place and retain the points lead!

Oh, did I mention how AWESOME the race is without the freaking DP cars?

It sounds like the Porsche teams are or are going to lobby to slow the Mazda (add weight?). It shouldn't help their case that they won this last race.
And the Pontiac is going to lobby for more HP or a lighter car. I hope they don't allow it. They don't have the car fully sorted yet.

 

yeah, SPEED's coverage was a little time shortened, and did not show how Werner managed to pull out ahead of Sylvain in the #70. It went to commercial with Sylvain right on his tail, and came back and he was over 8 seconds back. The Porsche guys better not complain too much.

 

Haha. I think someone made mention that the announcers stated the SpeedSource team might be looked at if they continued to dominate so maybe they sandbagged to second so they don't get penalized.

 

I don't know that Sylvain is the type of guy to sandbag a race. With all that is on the line out there, I really doubt it. He was driving the living hell out of that car. the pass he made on Werner right after Werner came out of the Pits was awesome driving, the rear camera angle they used on TV a couple times, shows a good bit of countersteer at high speed to keep the car on the tarmac. He gave it his best, but in the end, it just was not enough. The combination of a couple of slow corners, and really lengthy straights puts the rotary at a disadvantage. Despite what the P boys cry about.

 

There is a tradition of "whining to get your way" in this series It would be a pity to see the rules change to serve certain teams that think they should win all the time. Maybe they should do something about the cars they are driving...instead of complain about another??

The SPEED announcers said that the Ponitac uses basically the same engine as last year, and that car won a lot. They just picked a shitty car to make a racecar out of for the new campaign, and now they want new rules for them, to make up for their mistakes. The Porsche guys just don't seem to want to have to work for the win anymore. They just expect to win, and if they don't it is time to put on the sad face, and bash the competition. If I see Leh Keen on TV one more time, can't stand him...

 

I give Speedsource a lot of credit on the design of the car...they took the engine that they had..and maximized the chassis and the rest of the car too wring the maximum performance out of it. About time Porsche did something about their rear wheel- heavy- assed cars

( PS don't get me wrong..those GT3 cup cars are awesome cars.... ) I ust love the Mazda rotary whine........it sounds so race-car

and the discussion about the Porsche's, is that they are very hard on the rear tires, and when your tires go, you can't keep up with a better balanced car, no matter if it is a Mazda, a BMW or a Pontiac. If one of them is equal to, or close to equal to you, you will not be able to keep up with wrecked tires.

I think the TV guys make a big deal out of it too, and kind of fuel the fire, and make sure that there is a bulls eye on the speedsource cars.

and if they are so light, and that is their advantage, why is the #69 car not doing as well as the #70, must also have to do with the driver then, but no racer will admit that he got out driven.

speaking of which, Wolf Henzler's little interview after his aerobatic off road adventure was pure BS too. he cried with the best of them. I used to respect him, as a phenomenal driver, but not anymore.

 

?? Did you not see the SpeedSource car plow straight into his door head on to get him off the track? No BS to me.

 

from all of the angles I saw, there was no contact with the Taffel car, until Nick ham was almost past, and Henzler was trying to get back on line, and bumped the right rear corner of the 8. that pushed him off track, from what I saw. the in car they showed, did not show him hitting Henzler's car. I am going to have to go back and watch that part again, b/c from what I saw, there was no contact until the pass was made. if Ham had plowed into him, in a bold, really risky move, he would have been penalized for it.

 

Speedsource car was all most past him. They were so far infront that the only way the Porsche driver couldn't see them was if he had tunnel vision. It was a clean pass.

The Porsche teams may now have to develop their cars a little. They used to have it easy. Just drive it the way it is delivered from the factory.

 

that was how I saw it, but will look at it again, to make sure I don't have foot in mouth disease.

 

I rewatched it...if anything Wolf screwed up. He made a mistake and Ham went by him...and he clipped the rear of the Mazda car when he tried to get back on line.....He definitely needs to watch the video...it sure wasn't Ham's fault
