4.77 rear diff gears (pinion and ring)

Category: Accessories
Price: $500
Private or Vendor Listing: Private Listing
Part Fits (you may select multiples): Series I, Series II
Location (US State/Canada/Int): CA
Item Condition: Used

I have a 4.77 ratio ring and pinion for an RX-8 for sale. This is the lower factory gear ratio in the series II (2009 and later) RX-8 models. An excellent upgrade for 2008 and earlier series I RX-8.

These gears were used in our RX-8 race car for ONE race and are in like new condition. We have since switched to even lower 5.12 gears and no longer need the 4.77 gears.

The gears alone cost close to $1000 from Mazda.

For sale for $500 shipped anywhere in the USA.

It's best to e-mail me at magnusracing@aol.com if you have questions or wish to purchase the gears. However, I will try to check this thread and my forum PMs as well.

Thanks,

John

A lot of people have sent me messages asking how much these gears increase performance. Of course this is hard to quantify. One can expect a small improvement in acceleration due to the lower gear ratio. Top gear cruising rpm will of course also go up a little bit as well.

Ummm... have you tried pricing these through Mazda Motorsports lately? We purchased the gears from Mazda Competition not much more than a month ago and they cost WELL over $500

I have an '09 auto. Would this work in my diff? And would it help it any? Pros/cons please, if you know them.

My comment was geared toward mm members and it was only my intent to help the part appeal to a wider audience rather than beat you up. I would rather discuss my reasoning privately than dog your thread. Good luck with the sale

Interesting... my receipt for the gears from MM comes to much more than 580. Either you're just looking at only the ring or only the pinion or perhaps Mazda has lowered the price since then - the prices do fluctuate a lot I've found.

In any case. I'll lower my price to $450 which includes shippings.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the automatic has a much higher rear end ratio. Putting in the 4.77 gears would probably be a drastic gearing change for an automatic. Sure, you would probably accelerate much faster but your cruising rpm would probably be increased so much that you probably would not want to do this on a street car. Maybe if it's a drag car or something?

Fair enough. Thanks.

Would these be way to much over-kill on a turbo car? Traction be a major issue?

No, to Denmark. Because the Danes are better drivers than the Swedes
