September's issue of Modified Mag has the sixth annual Tuner shootout - thirteen cars competing in multiple categories, from drag time all the way to emissions tests, to find the best overall.
This years contest focuses on 'street' cars, nice interior, street legal tires and cat convertors all required.
A famous alum of rx8club is featured - Jeff Abrams, known here as MazdaManiac, has a boosted RX-8 in the fight. Jeff is famous for his Cobb AP tuning abilities and turbo upgrades, and it was nice to see him competing against all these world-class tuned machines!

He was up against some serious competition - 'out of his depth' would be the best way to characterize it....
A fully built Cosworth WRX, a GTR or a 700 horsepower NSX are not easy opponents, and he faired pretty badly overall coming 12th.
Fuel pump problems had the car shutting off on left-hand turns!
I'm just glad they only mentioned his lambo doors once and deducted no points for them! He also let slip that his present engine was his eighth.....
(Intended to add a link to the article, but I don't see one....maybe later this month)
I personally hope he is back next year, he has the spirit!

He was fighting fuel pump issues the entire event or else he would have done a lot better. Was also experimenting with E85 which in hindsight was a bad idea and coated the entire fuel system in black sludge.
When E85 touches premix it turns into this **** that looks like black snot. Even if you run just plain gas through the system for a week there's still enough premix remaining in the system to plug everything up when you switch to E85. Unfortunately we learned the hard way lmao.
