Thanks, i'm pretty stoked but i gotta wait 90 days, about 85 days left .. and i'm seriously considering changing the order to blue (if possible), but these pics are driving me nuts.. check out the differences in the shades! i really think the blue from japan is a different blue, perhaps electric blue other than aurora blue.

 

and check this out.. its supposedly an aurora blue mazda 3 .. i visited the dealership to check out this "aurora blue mica" in person so i can decide before i order the r3, and if the salesperson was correct in pointing it out, it looked just like this pic .. a purplish blue which im really not a fan of.. but maybe he pointed out wrong? cuz i also dont see the aurora blue option when i customize a mazda 3 on the site..

 

I think the Mazda3 above is called Stormy Blue Mica



And the R3 RX-8 is Aurora Blue Mica




Im sure the salesperson is wrong. All the colors on the R3 look sick, but to me, i would go with black, but between red and blue, i would stick with the red because it looks much better IMO, and it'll look perfect with dark wheels, like it comes with stock on the R3.

Japan R3:

 

I like the rear of the new 09 model, but for some reason the lower front just looks funny. I think it needs to sit lower or have a lip added onto the lip/diffuser that already exists to bring it closer to the ground. You know? Not just lowered, but something added b/c the front seems thin.

Anyways, congrats on the purchase! I bet you'll LOVE it!

the difference in those blue photos might just be lighting. some mica colors can vary quite a bit in appearance due to lighting. still, yeah change your order to the blue! vr looks realy nice, but there's already a lot of 'em

That is odd. That's definitely a different shade of blue - not just different lighting and the mica effect.

I think you're fine either way. It's noticeable enough on its own to stand out in a crowd of 04-08s regardless of the color but if it's that darker blue then that'd be pretty sweet. I'd look around local Mazda dealerships if I were you and see if any have the blue in stock. That's the only way to guarantee you're getting the color of Blue you like. VR is all over the place so you know you'll like that.

BTW - I hadn't seen some of these pictures. The front lip is a lot less out of place when there's a license plate hanging off of it and the angles on the corners of the front bumper are less pronounced from the upper/side shots then I'd thought. I'm not hating it as much as I had been.

pardon my newbness but is that MS style side skirt stock on all 2009's. Looks so much better than the "half skirt" we have on the 04-08 GT's. any idea if the side skirt from the 09 will be direct fit on the previous 8's, hopefully it would be cheaper than ordering a real MS label'd side skirt

Please post some pix as soon as you get it...it's gonna take some time for the other previous 8 owners to really appreciate the new version.

Personally I see pros and cons...but time will slowly weed out the cons and the new version will gets lots of love Im sure.

 

thanks, and yeah i def. agree with you.. its gonna take some time for people to appreciate this new model. I think the r3 is gorgeous and the possibilities with it are great. I think ive come to the decision that im going to stick with red, and visit a local mazda dealer to really witness the shade of blue when they receive it at the end of this week (as they claim).. i hope i dont like it so i dont have to change my order haha

 

Both Blues look sweet... the darker blue is very MS looking....either way you'll like it once you get. When I got mine I was always wondering why they didnt bring them over('04's) in White like in Japan, but after having my TG for a year when the Whites came over I liked it just as much,,,,, as long as your happy thats all that matters... I like the R3 in red. In fact, I didn't like the styling quite as much when it was previously released, but in red I feel it looks pretty good.

i think the R3 looks great! however, i'd probably remove the rear spoiler if i ever get one myself. i think the red looks really good, but i've yet to see the new blue in person

 

yeah i'm a little dissapointed with that.. ontop of the fact that theres no option for navi.. but w/e its not that big of a deal, i take the recaro seats, sport tuned suspension, and body kit over a moonroof and navi easily.. i have a tomtom XLS that i love anyway =)

 

Well that is the point. They followed the R1 and R2 tradition from the RX7. They concentrate on simplicity and performance.

 

Actually, it's been scientifically proven that Phantom Blue is an objectively superior color. I can give 17,525 reasons why.
