Today's Wall Street Journal
has an article about muscle car sales and how they are taking off even in the current economy. For some strange reason they include a photo of an RX-8 along with a Mustang and a Camaro. The article references "sports cars" which include everything from a Miata to a Ferrari and then mostly goes on to talk about how Camaro, Mustang and Charger sales are up. What this has to do with RX-8's is unclear from the article. I haven't been following RX-8 sales lately, are they up??

Fortunately reality is far from what the news likes to push on us as this story proves... I am sure the people who have lost their jobs are not the ones purchasing these cars.

There was a similar article in a local newspaper last week. It was talking about the Camaro and Challenger mostly and how despite the economy, they have sold many more units than expected and how they have pretty much been to lone bright spots for GM and Chrysler this year. I call BS on that too. The initial sales projections were probably so pathetically low that they couldn't help but come in over that. And how many of those sales were from pre-orders put in before the economy tanked? Just because they sold more than expected doesn't mean the numbers were really that great. I've seen several Camaros and Challengers around here that have been sitting on lots for a long time. There's even a lot close to me that has 2 used SRT-8 Challengers and when they are still asking 40+ k for them I don't expect them to move too soon.

He's as bad as Can
Mazda USA sold 291 RX-8's last month. It takes Chevy about 30 hours to sell that many Camaro's.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...898705784.html original article
they've got an old guy who drives a new V6 Camaro (which the WSJ initially describes as "304 hp" before revealing that it is V6) complaining about his old s2000, and talking about how he likes to speed. and they've got another guy talking about he downgraded from a BMW 335 to a Mustang.
