tajabaho1 09-18-2007 03:43 PM

lol, I don't like the front, it looks too feminin

Gotian 09-18-2007 03:48 PM

Well whatever the case be sure to provide some Hi-Def pics of this car from every corner, I would love to see it for myself but since i cant go Pics would be the best thing for me.

Brettus 09-18-2007 04:02 PM

So anyone have any theories as to why they would up the displacement vs just FI the Renesis or go with a 20b ?

Most likely reliability and cost when it comes to F/I and cost and fuel consumption for the 20B

rotary crazy 09-18-2007 04:12 PM

thats an easy one:

-20b too heavy because of the center plate, too expensie to built

-FI relaibility, emisions ( mazda will keep this in the back of theyr heads, if the car does very well we may see a FI version)

\\Konig\\ 09-18-2007 04:12 PM

shouldnt this be the rx-9?

anyways, best news ive heard in a long time!!!

xD

shaunv74 09-18-2007 04:17 PM

+1 emissions and fuel consumption are the reasons for sticking with 2 rotor NA.

Dont forget that its also easier to sell a $26k car as opposed to a $34k+ car

Good news in the words though.

at least one - the front on / left front tire view sketch that is really forshortened- is straight from a kabura sketch

the kabura one was done by Franz van den Acker. the blue one does not have his sig...

but this mag's sketches of the kabura were closest to reality that i saw so they may not be that far off....

8 Maniac 09-18-2007 04:31 PM

increasing displacement of a 2 rotor increases torqe better than a turbo and does it with better emissions than a 3 rotor I believe.

The rx-9 was made before the 8

If it is in fact increased displacement, plus DI, I don't think it will need FI. That ~280bhp in a ~2700lbs car (all estimates out of my head) will be a great CaymanS competitor.

But I can see getting a hold of one and throwing a little pressure through it. A little bit would go a long way in that type of car.

we have no way of knowing how this engine will perform, it may be possible to get over 300hp out of it, if that is the case then 300 hp in a 2700lbs car sounds sweet to me

shaunv74 09-18-2007 04:41 PM

Well IF it's a 1.6L and we assume the same hp/L as the 1.3L @232hp you're looking at 285hp. And that doesn't include any benefit from DI or other stuff they have up their sleeve. I expect they should be able to get over 300hp if they want to.

rotary crazy 09-18-2007 04:43 PM

I really want to know the specs on the facelift rx-8, maybe this time it has 250 real hp

RogueTadhg 09-18-2007 04:52 PM

It looks like someone took a chrysler, took it's logo off and glued on the Mazda symbol right below where the old one was.

ASH8 09-18-2007 04:54 PM

Well, well.
I did report about 2 years ago that "WHEELS" Magazine here said Mazda were working on a larger rotary engine..

Like many here the Kabura will seem to become a reality xXx.

Tokyo Motor Show will be very interesting..

zoom44 09-18-2007 04:55 PM

1.6l whose geometry provides better Torque ON TOP of the displacement increase,DI 9k redline w/300ish bhp in a 2500lbs(curb weight of a MX-5 phrt is 2573) rwd car with back seats big enough for kids that is more fuel efficient thanthe current vehicle and is better emissions wise? one can only hope

I don't think so - turbos/Scs almost double the torque of the renesis down low - 0.3L of displacement is not going to do that ...

Cody Red 09-18-2007 04:59 PM

"oh jimmy that is some good news, that is some great news!"

no seriously. fucken tight!!

ASH8 09-18-2007 05:11 PM

Also, For Mazda to take on a 15B or 16B Two Rotor RENESIS is a huge commitment from an engineering and tooling point of view.

The RENESIS 13B as we know it was developed really cheaply, ALL the dies and machinery was already there, the rotor housings are the same apart from 'Filling IN" the old exhaust ports.

A 15B's housings would have to be larger in their width by about 7mm.
So a big financial investment to mass produce this new DONK!.

Way to go Mazda....

Lets hope this all becomes a reality, oil prices head south.

crimson-rain 09-18-2007 05:12 PM

This engine BETTER put out 300+hp. Either that or a serious weight loss with at least 280hp. The cars coming out for 2008-9 are definitely up in power AND performance. 1/4 mile acceleration should be about mid to low 13s and handling, well, Mazda seems to always hit the nail on the head with handling.

... dog gahn it. I have to trade in my 8. Looks like another round of car payments.
