160,000 thru 2006:

https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-media-news-11/mazda-rotary-production-number-history-169856/

Should be ~200,000 by now worldwide.

a HUGE success...IMHO.....

Mazda don't throw away the freestyle doors solution......make two different cars instead...

a big GT (9) 4 seats ant freestyle doors and a sports light car 2 seater (7)

sales (if products are well made) will be good...IMHO

I'd love to get a "9" -- a proper JC Cosmo replacement would be awesome. I'd buy one in an instant.

Rx7 and a more adult (G35, Lexus IS) RX8 would make more sense to me and yes, freestyle doors don't 'not' work. I 'd keep them. 2 rotary cars but the RX8 can't be for kids. I recommend some innovative hybrid for the 4 door car plus a super tall overdrive. 3300 lbs with 330hp (270 plus 60 electric). Enough torque, enough class (Gotta have the chrome in all the right places like Lexus and Infiniti) and enough gas mileage. The 2 door: Light, 2500 lbs max 270 hp for it's initial engine with 200 lb/ft torque with it's turbocharged variant weighing in at 2650 and 330 hp.

Paul.

Paul.

+1 Paul.....mated to hybrid the rotary can perform well here in EU too..... this is a plausible layout for an hybrid rx-9 this engine is into Mazda Hiroshima Museum .... here it is........sadly is not into a R&D facility but into museum...

I'm sure they have other examples of 13B's, 16X's and perhaps other rotary variants in R&D that we don't know about.

yes, but in katakana is clearly explained. is a duel fuel H2/gasoline layout

there are:

a) an electro assisted turbo
b) an electric motor between the rotary engine and the gearbox (see..a manual tranny)..like a Honda IMA system
c) a battery.

imagine just throw away the h2 stuff..

Nothing in common with the Hybrid Premacy layout......the Premcacy is a SERIAL hybrid, this one a PARALLEL hybrid

Ouch - only 77? How many Miatas were sold in Feb 2010?

I can't blame Mazda if they stopped production.

MX5 sold 304 which is down 37% from last year (27% YTD)
RX8 sold 77 which is down 50% from last year (45% YTD)

Stopping production is based on a whole lot more factors than a bad month in sales.
This is only North American sales and not world wide.

http://www.mazdausamedia.com/content...rease-february

The local dealer only stocking ONE RX8 is based on his and the other 900 dealers lack of sales.

sad, but less sales = my car is more rare

I wish they would break up sales numbers by model and color.
