Just got the thing done, got the latest flash. Idle seemed to be hesitating a little bit, but I read that gets better soon.

And my new brakes sound like jet engines, wtf?

Ok, I know I should open a new thread on this to go with the others...

Took the 8 in for the recall, it was there a total of about 2 hours. Not even plugs, just a computer zap and done. I have just turned 15,000 miles with the test. I was curious whether they actually did anything until I saw the handprints in the brake dust on the front wheels.

So who is going to add up the recall 'in and outs' vs. engine replacements?

Looks like this is a CX-7 marketing ploy the way it is going. Yeah, I drove a CX-7 for about 2 hours or so. I still like the 8 better. Not bad for a crossover SUV. The engine lags a little waiting for the little turbo to catch, and I find I like seeing the front corners of my car. The hood on the CX-7 drops away out of sight.

toddman- they never should have scheduled you without the parts in stock.

jeffe- there shouldnt be any brake dust because they should have WASHED your car. take it back and complain.

I agree Zoom. I thought it was odd that they had to order the spark plugs, since that is a major piece of this recall. At any rate the service was still far and above what I have experienced at Autowest Mazda.

zoom-- they did, ahem, wash my car. I should have told them to skip it. They somehow missed the wheels. I am happy to get my 8 back dent and abuse free.

I know that I have low expectations. They have been set that way, not necessarily by this dealer, but by the net dealer experience. I will save my bile for issues that count.

Not a new story, as you can see in this forum.

I may try another dealer next time to see if they are as good as they tell our club they are. So yes, I will be taking my cash elsewhere.

I wonder who is filling out my surveys?

On my way to get a sandwich for lunch, I stopped by the local dealer and he's adamant that they cannot do anything until the 15th. The vin #s could be listed in the system as possibly needing the recall, but they can't do anything in their system until it has a link for it (or something like that).

This dealer is one of them "you can't beleive everything you read on the internet... they don't have all the info" service departments. (Autocenter in Middletown RI) I explained that I've seen the documents from MNAO that were sent to the dealer already with all the info they need to do (thanks Zoom!), who's affected, etc... to which he said "Those documents aren't official if they're not linked right to MNAOs site, and you need a password to get them." I offered to show him and he dind't want anything to do with it.

He also said, that they only have 'bits and pieces' of the recall and not all the info on it yet (that's the info that is coming on the 15th). I made and appointment for the 19th and he didn't have a problem with that.

From: Southern California. In El Centro, Ca. right on the border with Mexico. Extreme temperatures. Get to freezin in winter and up to 120 f during summer.
Question

Got my extended 1 year notification...... My car actually got an engine at about 4,000. It now has 19,000 plus.. I bought the extended warranty thru 6 years. Wondering what I can do if anything about cancelling one year and or getting some cash back. Any ideas?
Input appreciated. by the way when I got the new motor they also put in stronger starter, new (hotter) plugs and larger capacity battery. How do you figure this factors in with the new recall? Believe me it does not get any hotter any place in the nation except for death valley.....I am in the Imperial Valley...have any of you heard or been down this way? Nick

I'm just hoping they give the "KY" treatment first.

Nubo,

I had mine done today at Team (Bill Lang RIP) . It took just over an hour while I waited. They know not to wash my car but the service was exceptional. It actually was better than when they had the Cadillac store. Ask for Tam (Mech.).

I ended up doing the 30K service myself and all together it cost me about 150.00. However, if you don't have the time or desire to do it yourself, Senator Mazda only charges 349.00 for the 30K service.
I am often up in the Sacramento area so thanks for the heads up on Senator Mazda and the 30K service cost.

It pays to shop around.

Thanks! We'd noticed only recently cruising down Hwy29 that Bill Lang was "missing" . Hadn't needed service since the fuel-tank heat-shield recall, and my wife is driving a Toyota now. Looking forward to checking out Team. We had good experience at Bill Lang with 5 different Mazdas.

EXCESSIVELY TO START/STARTS AFTER 2-3 TIMES

It's one of the items on the Recall Fantasy List, like an option of a 100K mile drivetrain warranty, car buyback option, rebuilt engines will have improved MPG, etc.

My new one gets worse gas mileage than the last one, but hopefully that'll improve.

Maybe there is an ECU learning curve for the re-man motors, much like the guys that get the just the re-flash...

It is the same engine, yes, but with the new flash I read earlier in this mammoth thread that there's supposed to be a slight increase in HP. If the new flash increases compression I don't see why there wouldn't be.

I guess I'll take any hope I can, as I'm fairly certain my 8 isn't pushing anywhere near the 238 hp the sticker claims. If they advertised what it really outputs (somewhere in the 190's), my decision to get this car would have been a lot harder.
