My head tech down here in SWVA just got the training yesterday, and they don't have the "t" software yet, and said the recall has not officially been released, and to wait for the letter. -Just a note for fellow VA owners.

 

Not at all sure... that's why I put the weasle words "possible added benefit". The original program docs state:

"...at no cost for the duration of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty (48 months / 50000 mile warranty whichever comes first)."

...but if they extend the warranty, then the first part might end up being say "60mo / 50,000 miles" or something like that (we don't know - maybe more miles too). It'll be interesting to discover as this plays out, but I would think it in MNAO's best interest to be doing regular maintenace on as many cars as possible to keep close tabs on how they are doing. It really is only a small extra cost to them, nothing extra-ordinary by any means. Then they see the cars on a regular basis longer.

 

yes they do have the new flash, recall is official just have them look up a vin or check their "whats new" page. and yes you should wait for your letter

I didnt get a chance to drop a word in, I came in to get my visor replaced and he says "Oh yeah I got some info on the recall..." and went on to say its mainly effecting hot/humid area's. I just grinned internaly knowing that he must of thought to himself upon hearing of it "damn.. kevin and his damn forum was right!".

Btw took a hour to replace the damn visor like honestly a hour wtf?!

When I had my Renesis rebuilt, I had the Racing Beat oil pump mod done to increase oil flow, so maybe I'm covered.

Also, since I'm turbo'ed & ported, getting a 'free' new engine would actually cost me thousands of $$$ to get it back to where it is right now...and a reman isn't 'new' anyway.

I'll be surprised if 07 isn't the last year for the RX8.

Nope. The only change is to the last step of the pump. The failure area is the low-load steps. The flash should cover that.

Why so expensive? Did you not save the parts? I think it should take about a day and no cost to revert. Oh, yeah, the porting is probably where you would loose...

Probably a year or more after that. I'd say 2009.

heck maybe I'll go ahead and throw the stock muffler on there and take it to the dealer this weekend, (I have the magnaflow) just in case they wanna talk crap about mods and what not, I am already mighty pissed about my rear door driver side repair, the idiots at the dealer didn't set the hinges right and the door was sagging for a few days... oh and my trunk release no longer works... I hate those guys

anybody know another mazda dealer in the central coast california? I realy don't like valley mazda... well the service manager is top notch, but his monkeys are not

 

I wouldn't worry too much about your exhaust. I've had several warranty jobs done after I installed my Borla and they didn't give me any crap about it. Of course, a new engine is a pretty big deal, but I don't think they could justify blaming any of these issues on aftermarket exhaust.

 

Not sure if this is a repost or not, but I called Mazda today in regards to all this stuff, and they told me that 1: for my 2k5 8, that they were extending my warantee for an extended year or 60k miles. Looks like something is going on.

They also mentioned that 2: the recalls or "notices" would be going out soon per region, starting off with the pacific. Looks like I'll be waiting by the mailbox for a while before I get mine in and tested since I'm in Indy.

 

I took my car to the dealer yesterday for an oil change. It's an April 2005 build with 7,700 miles on it and no problems so far.

I mentioned the recall issue when I dropped it off. The service manager knew about the recall but wasn't sure the kits had come in yet. The service tech came up and told us that the kits had arrived and he could do the test. My car was the first one tested at this dealership. I'm not sure which test they performed, but as I have never had any power loss issues I'm thinking they just inspected the Cat. He did mention the drive test, but I didn't see that a whole lot of miles had been added on the odometer when I came back for it. When I picked up the car there were no problems noted. The paperwork indicated that they reflashed it and replaced the two leading spark plugs.

So no new engine for me.

quick question to somebody who knows: do they have to do anything to the intake to replace the engine? I'm just wondering how my AEM being in there will play out.

 

Crap I had my visor replaced today and knew nothing of this! I will stop by tomorrow fo sho! My car has been in four times for the ****** visors but has never had a flash or anything else done. I have put 15k on this car and drive it well no problems mechanically.

 

I spoke to the service manager this mourning, and he had no details as to what the recall was for but he did know for a fact that IT DOES NOT REQUIRE A NEW ENGINE. My dealership actually has a certified rotary technician and is one of the only ones around in this area.

I trust the info he gave me today is accurate.

 

^^ Your service manager is a moron! My dealership called me last week and actually notified me about the whole process and asked when I could come in for service. They did happen to tell me that with the problems that I have had in the past that I most likely will get the replacement engine. But they want to run all tests to be sure. They said I could have my choice of loaner vehicles too. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

He's correct. There is no *requirement* for a new engine. Most will get a reflash and that will be the end of it. If you complain about the lack of power, they will test the engine, and if it fails, only then will you get a new engine.

it does IF IT FAILS THE TEST . HE GAVE YOU INNACCURATE INFORMATION. read the actual DOCUMENTS, which are available to him, in the TSB and Recall thread in the issues and problem section. its a sticky and not hard to find. He also should have watched the Webinar . if he hasnt he is WOEFULLY inadequate as a service manager and should be replaced. Hell there are 2 videos - the Webinar and a sort of "primer". the "primer " gives him an acted out sketch of how he should have responded to your question. he failed miserably

 

My service manager and I have the same hobby but he drags a big block camaro (which recently blew up) so I can ask him personally.
