Hope the side bearings on the wheel are properly lubricated so we don't get a squeak...squeak... squeak that conventional wheels give

As much as enjoy your insightful posts, I respectfully request that Henry be given a login name so that he can post more. I'm quite interested for him to weigh in on the Evo vs. STi debate.

Interesting thread and nice to see Mazda finally doing something. Maybe for their next act they can address the 11 to 12mpg city mileage.

What I can say for sure is it is nice to have guys like ibfubar2000, ZOOM44, Otherside on this forum. They do more for Mazda then MNAO ever has. Keep up the good work and thanks for the information.

Of all that I have heard about the "recall", this link probably explains it in detail best:

Any possibility of a Mazda buy back program? I love the way the car handles but I can't visit my friend in Las Vegas or visit my mother in Sacramento in hot weather. I can barely reach 40mph at full throttle when the temp gets near 110 degrees and I cannot maintain freeway speeds at 100 degrees. I'm not confident that an engine exchange will solve the problem.

Ummm your car has some major issues and if a new engine didn't solve that problem I would be SHOCKED!

I live in NH and it does get hot here believe it or not...AND on top of the heat we have oppressive humidity. 70%. My car while not as snappy in that weather and being black on black leather which is painful to bare skin... I can certainly maintain highway speeds with NOOO problems...

On the other extreme... I bought my car in February. F'ing cold here. Now it didn't want to start easily on a -20 day BUT it did start and after warming up ran just fine.

For the sake of your car... get the engine replaced!

My car has the slight sluggishness with the extreme heat, one day though. It was one of our record 100-plus days. I spent two hours pretty much at idle or under 10 mph on I-205. My ambient temperature reached up to 114 (although I was only able ot get a picture of it at 110). When I finally made it to where I could start moving again and get up to posted speeds my car was a little sluggish and slow to accelerate. This was going up a slight incline but it was still a little sluggish compared to normal. After maybe 1 mile of driving it was pretty much normal again. I just thought it was because it was so hot. I saw a lot of other cars overheated on the side of the road so it could have been much worse.

I didn't notice any hard starts in cold but I picked my car up March 26, plus it doesn't get that cold here. I think the lowest it was when I tried to start it was at 5 a.m. and 22 degrees and it was fine.

One question, how dose any of this relate to oil leaking from the engine and ruining the Cat?

Leaking Oil = Possible damaged seals = Possible compression loss = bad engine response

I agree. I would get a nice dog before a cat. Dog comes to the door, greats you, likes to play catch, what the heck does the cat do besides eat your food and give you funny looks?

Definitely - No Cat.

Hmm, perhaps I should wait to 49,000 miles for the recall to get the most out of my current engine?

Yes well having a bunny is pretty impossible. Do you know how fast they multiply? Pretty soon my apartment will be overrun by bunnies.

On a more related note, I use Idemitsu premix every fillup. I do have a (emphasis on "a") sound that I've described as marbles in a blender, but so far my engine hasn't grenaded or anything so until it does I'll just try my best to ignore the sound and enjoy the times when it's not there and I can hear the beautiful pure rotary blare.
