Good link MazdaManiac we forget that if we drive our cars hard we get better mileage than piston engines do. Reliability is not the issue if driven hard.

Whatever we do don't let grandmothers drive the 8 they will baby it into the ground.

I actually used the excuse once about having to get the rpms up at least once when I drive. The officer didn't want to go along with me on this and I even said it with a straight face. Loved his comment about that. "Did you have to take it through all the gears?!"

"Nope just two, otherwise I would have been up around 150 mph."

That and my winter tire size is different than stock...

Gave me a warning and said have a nice day.

They'll give you a new one if you need it and then you can go back to your unlit, wood paneled basement and play some more WoW with your d*ck in your hand, chatting to your gamies about how your can't believe how sucky Mazda is until 4am.

I'm a little late on this reply (forgive me father, it has been 12 hours since my last login) but that was funny funny stuff. Thanks Mazda Maniac for your insightful view on engine replacement.

This thread needs more POSITIVE talk...like this. ^^^

I also am at 50,000 miles and running strong. Always used 5W-20 dino juice, no pre-mix (although I have some coming in the mail just to be sure), rev to 9K at least once a day. NEVER had any problems with the Renesis

I hope that this recall publicity does not mean the end of the Mazda rotary, because I plan on having one in my garage for the rest of my life.

Um, it's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw my RX-8 at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

I love my RX-8! That is why I plan to go the LS1 route if I get an engine failure!

That will be the day...

I agree with MM that it's just a piece of tin - manmade so there are bound to be problems. Mazda is standing up to the plate and replacing any engine that has a problem FREE. I live in the desert also and my 8 has been thru all the temp variations that we have. Yes I've had a few small problems with the air conditioning that took a couple of trips to fix but Mazda fixed it on their nickel. Over heating was never a problem because I had oil cooler and trans cooler installed before it got hot. Still using RP oil and plan on continuing doing so. The rev limiter and I are on a first name basis. I do not expect to have my engine replaced during the recall but even if I do it will be replace under warranty.

Hey if its underwarrenty trick them into giving you the Shelby V8 hehe. I joke hehe. Admit it you want a MazdaSpeed Chinchilla Motor dont lie to us!

Ahh so news stations are picking this up now not all of them which most likely means some of the employee's of the station own Rx-8's and brought it up so they posted it on their website. Can anyone confirm if these stations did a bit piece on this upcoming recall? I still find it troubling some dealers know of this recall and others dont know anything (like mine) or say this site is completly wrong.

I heard it and saw it on 9News here in Denver. They showed a file video of a red rx going around corners. Here is there web site. I looked over it and could not find a written article about the recall. They did say its because of oil clogging the cat and Mazda would replace the engines. YIKES.

http://www.9news.com/ Ok I found it here http://9news.com/consumer/

So now its posted on a news site

I have consistenly expressed my opinion - similar to MM's - and think this recall points to the fact that Mazda, at the very least, is working towards a solution to SOME owners problem. It's a small amount of 8's, it sucks for those owners, and I'm glad Mazda is not just blowing the issue off.

However, the text I've enlarged above is just stupid. The fact is - this recall is going to happen, and b/c I know more about it than a tech at my dealer I'm seen as "one of those guys reading on the net again"? The dealerships need to be have a bit less ***** envy about these types of forums.

NOTE: As I've said b4 - my service mgr. has been great, and did not give me any BS about the reflash that I knew more about than he did. I was, however, very respectful in asking about it & think that some here may be taking a condescending attitude when dealing w/service reps.

That's because we have so many horror stories. Most of the dealer problems start with that sales person who trys to sell cars. The one I use in Denver is fine and they tell you what's going on although they use a Ford service counter that also supports Mazda service.

Will the new flash, with extra injected oil, affect the ability of us in "strict emissions" states to pass our tests?

Part of me would laugh if New_Guy is one of my service reps. But anyways...
Anytime I bring up "I heard/read it on the internet" its to help expidide my problem. Sadly I get blown off more than half the time, my door sills still havent been fixed though I have mentioned "I seen there was a TsB for this issue". Usualy the way I bring it up is nicely and not a "I am GOD since I read the internet." I work in customer service (and they know this) so I'm always nice and very (maybe to much) respectful. I guess its just those small few that give them that bad feeling when anyone mentions "internet" to them, it just soils it for the rest of us.

Bold statement considering you have not tested any vehicles yet..... I am glad your not my mechanic or dealer.
The statement relates to the area we live in. Cool climate, no excessive heat. With an attitude like yours, Im glad your not my customer. you would make a good "mulligan".
