I am slightly concerned with my situation. Car has 50,000 miles, the vast majority of which are "light throttle cruising." However, I live in a climate (Wisconsin) where we do not see 100+ degrees. My concern is that I have done damage to my engine (as a result of insuficient lubrication at low throttle), but not enough to show up on this test. I would hate to start having these problems 25,000 miles from now and then be stuck.

Oh well...not much I can do now. Just wait for the recall and hope for the best!

P.S. I still LOVE this car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[QUOTE=ranger4277]I keep mine topped off, this isn't this issue. Insufficient oil being injected is the problem.

If this insufficient oil is to hot and "tired", that speeds up the problem...and an oil get more tired as its more often get to hot, and its more often get to hot as it is continually less.

It is unfortunate that Mazda didn't provide ballpark statistics in their press release on this issue. If they had said they expect it to only effect 1% of the cars that would be most of us are fine and the sky is not falling.

If it is 25% or 33% (which it is probably not) then that is something else entirely.

Recalls still effect cars out of the warranty period. Stop worrying that your car has over 50k. If you fail the test then they are obligated to replace your engine.

All of you are FAR too much at the mercy of your cars. You need to give your car some tough love and TELL it how much compression it's going to have. If it talks back, throw some water in the gas tank or threaten to never hit the redline again.

These cars have to learn some respect.

Judging from your avatar you utilize the tough love rule when it comes to disciplining your cats as well.

Yes, unfortunately that particular cat will have to live on forever in my avatar, as he has long since been made into soup.

Angry OH SNAP!!! Mazda RX8 Has HUGE RECALL???!!!

Mazda to recall nearly all RX-8s
Mazda will recall all 2004, 2005, and many 2006 model year RX-8 sports cars to address an issue with the vehicle's unique rotary engine, according to trade publication Automotive News. The automaker is expected to officially announced the voluntary recall some time this week. Many engines will need to be replaced, according to the report. The move comes after the Japanese automaker came under fire from consumers over a number of serious problems with the engine. The issue involves damage to the catalyst resulting from oil leaks. Any engine that does not pass a vacuum test must be replaced.

This was sent to me by a friend at this web page.... http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/08/...rly-all-rx-8s/

I'm not worried about warranty issues...I'm worried about 50,000 miles of driving with insufficient lubrication.

WTF do I care if Pete loves me or not??!!

Holy effinshiiite!! 3 more pages of falling sky to catch up on since I left work yesterday? damn. No wonder zoom's twitching.

Stop asking your damn dealers about it. Imagine how annoying it would be to have to answer questions that you either don't know the answer to, don't have the full info for, or just can't discuss until given the ok from above. Then imagine knowing that the person asking ALREADY HAS THE ANSWERS TO MOST OF THE QUESTIONS THEY ARE ASKING. I'd be pretty frustrated, how 'bout you?

Mazda probably doesn't have a clue as to how many are affected. In fact I am beginning to think (after 16 years of owning Mazda's) That starting with the RX-8 Mazda plain just doesn't have a clue.

Since this engine recall info, we have probably received more new user registrations than the horsepower debacle.

lol. My dad always says "oh that's just f8ckin ducky!"

No idea why. It's funny every time I hear it from him, though. I was hoping for a few when installing the footwell lights (don't you void my warranty ya bastard) but my GF was there so he wouldn't drop any. bummer.

The sky is falling.

I think Mazda wants to have more exact numbers before alarming the masses (little late now) as to how many and which ones are really effected.

^ Seems reasonable enough. We're really not the masses anyway. We make up a small % of 8 owners, and those that have bad engine are only a small % of members here.

I'm reminded of the saying - a person is smart. people en masse are stupid and panicky.

(as I typed that I got an image of Tommy Lee Jones - but don't know what movie - MIB?)

Did Mazda replace anything in your intake system? That's an awfully complex sucker and, were it so to happen that the necessary ports wouldn't open at the right RPM, your engine would indeed feel like it "had no power" or "wouldn't rev". Something sticking when it's warm?
