Confirmed, 08 40th Anniversary Model for US

"A little bit less wonderful" Yeah, I'd agree there. My wife and I were tooling along this past weekend enjoying a nice drive in the 8 when I passed a U-Work-U-Ride lot and there in all it's glory sat a titanium '04 RX-8. I nearly crapped brass rivets. My eyes were tearing up but I'm positive the asking price on the windshield said $14,500.

I always wanted that interior in my white 8.
Sounds like they really didn't do that much in any respect. Jeez. At least throw on the appearance package or something.
Shame on Mazda Marketing for a disappointing anniversary edition.

We need to accept the fact that Mazda chose profit over their rotary heritage, at least in this generation rotary. It was a business decision. As much as we'd love to have seen the RX8 improve performance wise, financially it would be a very bone headed move. The car hasn't warmed up to the general public, it's not selling well compared to it's competitors, or at all now. I truly believe that even with bumped up performance, it would still be struggling in the market place.
Enthusiasts cars don't make car companies money, general consumer cars do, so Mazda is doing the right thing here for themselves and their business, even if I or others don't like it. The next generation rotary is their chance to bring back some major enthusiasm. The RX8 was rebirth in North America, to get our feet wet for the future.

By far the best explanation of the current version of our beloved, yet woefully underpowered, 8.

It seems different markets are getting different versions of the 40th AE RX-8. The brochures that Wolverine posted are for the JDM 40th AE. And it is indeed done in Marble White, with a two tone black/white (leather/alacantra) interior. The Japanese love white cars!
The US version is suppose to be Metro Gray with Red Leather.

R_Magic, thanks for grabbin' & posting those 40AE shots... can you (or some one who is good at with compooter) find the photo of the Cosmo interior next to the RX-8 interior? It's the one that splashes across the screen when you choose "Interior" at the JDM version url. Thanks!

so did i read the PR wrong or will the 40th car have -dual- front power seats?
the water repellent glass coating seems interesting if you live somewhere there is alot of precipitation. (i wonder how well it works, weighs, etc - and why they didn't put it on the rear windshield - guess i understand the pop windows)
--
i'm guessing the chrome bezels & foam member are borrowed from the shinkas
and the 'finely balanced' rotors are regular ones..
--
200 units is pretty small too (i'm guessing that's just the JDM count)

i forgot to say that the new dampers are the only addition i'm really interested in.
(still trying to understand b-stock implications...)

Man, so far, if those are the actual pictures......i'm wondering why the rotary accent pkg isn't standard flare on the 40th Anniversary RX-8......
If theyre going to make a 40th anniversary RX-8 and only make cosmetic changes, it should have a mazdaspeed body kit or have the rotary accent pkg + appearance pkg and unique or lip spoiler. I hope the wheels are a bit different and not chromed or like the Shinka wheels.....

Above are pcictures of the 2007 40th Anniversary Edition.
I'm not sure I have my facts right but it appears that is was not until 1968 that six Cosmo series II were imported into the US (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Cosmo#Series_II). With that said, I guess 2008 is the 40 anniversary of the Mazda Rotary here in the US,
As for the actual color and wheels for our US versions....
More found here>> http://blogs.motortrend.com/6214902/...win/index.html
I'd really like to see a shot of the inside color!!!!!
