Thanks for the info... my next question would be if Mazda worked with them to jointly develop it, or did they hack through it like CZ has...? Regardless, any positive developments in this area are great news...

I wonder how much weight the turbo adds to it. 3k lbs, 360 horsepower, 250 ft-lbs torque ... that's just a bit short of 360 modena stats ...
wonder how the gearbox is holding up ... wonder how many miles it has seen

This car will go Tasmania Targa stage race. If it last the distance, beat the Porsche and EVOs, I will go to Sydney to hunt him down and stuff him with my cash. :p
Hymee is working on a supercharger. I am sure he does not mind seeing what happens in the rival camp. He, so far, keeps away from saying anything about this car :D

Yes we have done engine management for Mazda Australia. At this time
this is only available to Mazda Australia, however it should be available
for general sale early next year. As with the MX5 SP (Miata) that we did for
Mazda Australia, we are able to do similar upgrades for the general public
after the release of the vehicle.
Thank You

For legal reasons I can't go into it too much, but we are not using
a piggyback ecu. I cannot say as to how the nut has been cracked but I will
be able to give you more information at a later date.

Is it me or has anyone else noticed the word (target) next to the words "horsepower" and "torque"?
Okay, simulpost. So it's not just me.

Zoom44,
Perhaps a bit of background info. Chiptorque specialize in hardware cracking. While in the older days this simply involved ROM emulation, they're now into internal flash hacking / security encoding. They have an excellent reputation in terms of engineering, but quite a poor reputation in terms of tuning. Particularly in the case of rotaries.
They have, as they hinted at, already cracked Mazda Renasis/Hitachi based ECU's before. I'm fairly sure they had help with that....
Oh and taka Chiptorque are in QLD.

Today's Australian newspapers report this RX-8 will be a "one-off special". "There is definitely no way it is going into production", says Mazda Australia spokesman Alastair Doak.

I still have faith in Oz... you guys were the first with a dealer-offered turbo Miata... as long engineering work is being done there's good coming out regardless of the outcome.

Even though it may not go into production, it's the knowledge from their innovation that would pave way for more progress. I hope the US can pick up on their knowledge soon
