2010 RX-8 Spy Shots

Go Texas Longhorns!
If they were willing to revise the ECU mappings a bit, install a lighter flywheel and lighter weight wheels and tires, its possible they could get better acceleration without major engine mods. I bet were are talking like .1 - .2 seconds max here.
God I hope they don't make the gear ratios more aggressive, thats the last thing the cars needs.

another thing i was thinking about that crease above the grill where the front rolls down from the hood to the grill . it appears to run the width of the car right across and under the headlights. much like the Mspeed v2

Well we should know all in a month so at least it isn't a long wait. The rumor about adding DSg interests me. Would make it more palitable to the wife. I'll wait until the complete redesign and the 16x and see how it stacks up to the competition.

While DSG type transmission is nice, what we really need is a more powerful engine. The current 6MT in the RX-8 is very smooth and ease to use already. Mazda needs to fix what is "broken"...the lack of power.

Does anyone else think that by 2010, the 16x, rumored to have 280 hp, will be an underpowered engine again relative to other sport cars? I am assuming Mazda keeps the weight the same. If they can drop the weight of the next generation RX-8 by 10% and have the HP at 280, I'll be buying one.
That would be 280HP to 300HP at the crank. Also depending on where you place the peak crank power of the present engine. The JDM is suppose to be 250HP, while say the U.S. version is at 232HP.
Considering that in 2009 there will be a 300HP Hyundai coupe running around and the 350Z, for 2009, is expected to be at least 325HP (crank), Mazda should make sure the RX-8 can handle its competition.
If the RX-8 truly pulls 300HP than great. The problem is the automatic and lesser power engine madness that Mazda pulled before. Then the moving HP spec. So 300HP in Japan, could mean 280HP everywhere else.
For the automatic, god only knows how low Mazda will go or if Mazda will lose its mind again and strip the automatic engine of parts. Much better if Mazda figures out how to have the automatic transmission handle the high RPMs, or just go SEMI-AUTOMATIC.
If Mazda is going to slightly underpower the NA RX-8 again, than the RX-8 needs FI to be considered in the same status as the RX-7 was in comparison to other sport cars.
Mazda should be kicking Mazdaspeed in the ***. So if they release another underpowered NA RX-8 engine, like 280HP. The 375HP FI kit by Mazdaspeed, should be ready for the power drivers.

Perhaps this thread should be merged..
This is what I posted in the other thread on the new RX-8..........
Worldcarfans are saying that the Spy Shots of the 2010 RX-8 "Mule" is in fact the 2009MY RX-8 Face-lift due around May 2008.
To use their words the 2010 report was a "**** up"..
Do you guys think the new 2009 RX-8 will also have the modified rear end panels for the new US quarter angle crash test regulations enforced for 2010?.
Would be unusual not to take advantage of this redesign not to...IMO.
It is obvious now that we will not see any all new RX-8 0r 7 until the 2012/2013MY.
So, we can now all start some "real" speculation on what the new 2009 RX-8 will have in it...
LED Tail Lamps..
New shocks and damper settings..
New Alloys.
New Tranny and clutch.
Revised/new Oil Metering System.
More electronic gadgets...
Rain Sensing wipers.
Reversing sensors.
Advanced Key-less entry as standard.
Upgraded sound system.
Any more?

Any chance the headlights could resemble the ones from the 2009 Mazda 6. I remember reading somewhere on autoblog that all future mazda designs would come from the new Mazda 3 and Takaki concept. The one from the spy photo resembles the ones on the 6 a little bit. It looks like the houseing around the lowbeam HID projector looks a little like the one on the 6 and its missing the parking light or it could be covered by the camo. I could be wrong.
Also, that's why you get blue fog lights and just use them for decoration and scaring the hell out of people when you zoom up to them from behind. Hehehehe...

Damn, tease! It looks like they changed up the headlights, tail lights, front bumper, rear bumper & the side skirts. Just a bunch of cosmetic changes.. I wonder if they did anything to the engine bay?!

Momentum Keeps Me Going
What I see strongly in these (and other "spy") pictures is that the car was decidedly "posed", dead stopped and the photgrapher was snapping away. Hell the car is even cockeyed on the road.
No chance encounter this.....in what is Germany ('D' stands for Deutschland, in the blue stripe on the left of the plate).

some cat in germany is laughing at us right now. he got a front bumper from accolade, tossed some tape on the car, put a reflector on the side and taped it on, made a few mods to the rear lamps, snapped some shots and put it out on the net. okay, maybe not......or is it????

Autoblog said the following about the RX-8 spyshots:

This pic taken from this different angle, definitely shows that no diagnostic equipment was hooked up to the tailpipe itself. So the powerplant will probably be the same - any improvement in acceleration will probably come through gearing.
Some diagnostic equipment appears hooked up to one of the tailpipes, which also could indicate a new rotary for the RX-8, most likely the 16X Renesis that first appeared in the Taiki Concept at this year's Tokyo Motor Show.

The apparatus you see attached to the bumper will be standard equipment on all future rotary-powered automobiles from Mazda. In fact it is a laser beam, used to determine distance behind the car, and report this information back to the driver via the navigation screen. This enables the rotary enthusiast to determine exactly how badly he is beating his competition at the track. Five car lengths? Twenty car lengths? Now, praise Allah, he will know for certain.
