We've heard that there will be an RS (or R-Spec) version that will have Recaro seats, but the seat pictured is an old press photo of the Recaros from the RX-7 RZ from 2001

if it truly looks like that... thats sick.. and im preordering mine!

Once I started seeing vents everywhere I felt like I was the first to break dance in the neighborhood. I still think they belong on the 8 but the copying got out of hand and never really look like they belonged on other cars.

It is obviously an "artist rendition" and not an actual photograph.

But, it's probably not too far off, considering how close Best Car's prediction of the NC was to the real thing.

Paul.
I read some Japanese. The article doesn't say very much. But here is basically what is covered in the article:

The Type RS naming was used on the RX-7 previously. That the RX-7 had Recaro seats, like the red one shown, and that the new RX-8 Type RS will get Recaros too (but maybe not like the ones shown in the pic.) Also says that the RX-8 was first introduced in April of 2003. But the base design was shown at the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show. (Implying that this new RX-8 is overdue.)

Also talks about the new bumpers, that the front bumper has bigger air ducts, similar to the Mazdaspeed Atenza and Axela (Mazda 6 & 3). Price is around 3,200,000 Yen, or about $30K. Also notes that the wheel size is 19 inch.

lol!! Sorry dude, but I am not full-blown Japanese. Only partial, and it is not even my dominant side. I just decided to register as my Japanese name. Sorry for deceiving you! lol!

Thanks Hachi! Hmmm....19 inch wheels. Does that mean the 8 pictured is the Type RS? Guess all will be revealed by next week at the Tokyo Auto Salon. Can't wait!

Well, so much for those being real photos. Here's the current RX-8 photos that the chop is based on:

Interesting. If you look back there is another thread posted (by 2rotors) outlining the preliminary specs for the 2009 Rx8 (Canadian version). If you read through the description of the "Sport" version, it fits with the photo of the Type RS very well----sporty front bumper, side sills, rear spoiler, 19 inch wheels, rear spoiler.

Which still leads me to the same question---if the version shown is indeed the Type RS (as it appears increasingly likely to be), then what does the "normal" version look like? Will it be the same front bumper or a new one? Are the wheels going to be updated? I'm quite surprised that pictures of the Furai have come out, but proper pics of the updated 8 are no where to be seen----and we're only a week until the Detroit show!
