2010 RX-8 Spy Shots

All I can say is ..so far .. much ado about not much of anything. Front 'may' be an improvement, everything else.. meh .. I can take it or leave it. From the rear view above, it's easy to see it really isn't significantly different.
If there aren't 15-20% more mazda 'ponies' (junior version of everyone elses horses) under the hood.... or 2-300lbs weight reduction ...
.... what was the point really? It'll be the same car from the driver's perspective.

this 8 will have more hp

It has a big smile like this =DD
I don't like it that much. The rear looks alright though.
But the front... =/
I should start saving even more so I can get an 8 before they start manufacturing this one.. =X
IF they do.

I have jsut posted this in the "other new RX-8 thread"....
WELL,
I have just returned from talking to a Mazda Parts Manager that I trained and here is some news, the 3 RX-8's that are being tested in our outback are of the new model..
One has the RENESIS 13B "Covered Face lift", its appears US, Europe and Australia are testing them.
The other 2 have the 1.6 RENESIS one with DI and the other with NA!!!
They are all Japanese (factory) engineers with Mazda Australia techs accompanying them.
The MA "gossip" is that they have until the end of January 08 to rectify the heating issues (we are in our summer 40 degrees c plus temps), apparently the 16 (Bs'?) have a larger capacity water pump and the car has larger radiators/fans.
If this can be solved there is a strong possibility that a NA 1.6 litre RENESIS will be "offered" in the new face lift which is scheduled for line production in early April.
The 1.6 DI's are for the "New' RX in 2013.
If not the existing 13B with "tweaked electronics for more performance"
and the suspension upgrades we know about will be the likely outcome.
But the larger engine is not dead in the new 2009 RX-8.
Interesting news..

I forgot to add this...as I was too excited!!!, sorry!!!...
Mick who has been a Mazda PM for nearly 20 years and has many contacts (obviously with the guys at Mazda Australia) believes that the new "type R" or even ...dare I say it...a 'Mazdaspeed 8 or MPS' version would have the 1.6 NA engine, with the other models the existing tweaked 13B, Why, you would have the extra ponies many want in the special version, but at a cost of higher fuel use.
IMO this is very plausible.

More hp out of the 13B NA ? Couldn't belive that they are able to tweak the engine a lot. Due to the face that the EU-RX8 hasn't more than 210 PS (specs are 231), i don't think that they are able to get more than 230 PS out of the 13B-MSP. I think its possible that there will be both engines available in the 2009 RX8, 13B-MSP and the 1.6 NA one. DI will be the feature for the 2013 rx8 :-)

I haven't heard anything about the "suspension upgrades". What is known about this? What are they doing to make it better? Adjustable coilovers? stiffer anti-sways? stickier tires? Hopefully more than urethane filled cross-members at least.
the possible 16x engine is awesome news!

Agreed. I would be very hesitant to purchase one with that amount of testing..... I still think Mazda will surprise us all and release a tweaked RX8 with more power and a true RX7 replacement within two or three years.

Haven't heard anything from any of my sources, Christmas and all.
I did hear that they are trying to avoid pictures at this time. They want as much debut information as they can get for the Detroit Show.
I thought they had been working on the 16X for more than a few years now. Same engine design, so it seems that there is little difference between 13B and 16X. Just expanded in size. Principles are the same. The only big differences would be in the EMS, tuning. And evidently cooling capabilities.

We are talking about a 1.6 NA, which nobody assumed would even exist, and why would it not work when you come to think of it, the only negative is fuel consumption.
MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL!!!!!

...meaning it's development is ALREADY 5+ yrs old, and Easy_E1's said, "I thought they had been working on the 16X for more than a few years now."

nobody seems to have noticed my post about the exhaust being different from the manifold back. new manifold plus new catalytic. probably their newest design you can read about here http://blogs.motortrend.com/6217759/...ent/index.html
so combined with a more aggressive tune and a new oiling system they can boost output more than 10hp possibly even 15 with a better flywheel. of course we need to see what the advertised number is but i thats what im guessing right now 10+ and hoping for 15-20.
