Its not strip mining. It is not like burning acres of rainforests.

If the correct steps are taken coal mining isn't bad, but I'm from northeast PA ("The Molly Maguires" area filmed only 10 miles from my house) and we still have huge open holes, mine fire (destroyed town), and stream and lake pollution from mine drainage (sulfur). Its def another option but steps need to be taken so more areas are not left like this.
Again I'm not saying any of you are wrong.
Also, doesn't garbage decomposition produce methane? Maybe its already done, but harvest methane given off from landfills...? Still doesn't help the CO2 in the atmosphere but maybe another fuel to use?
Very interesting article tho refugeefrompistons

The 16x better be out by at least 2009 otherwise it's no point. Mazda's rep is falling, by underpowering their sport's car. The 16x is a 20% increase in HP. So it will be in the 280HP to 300HP range. Hyundai will have a 300HP car out for 2009 and the 350z will be at least 325HP.
Wait until 2012 or so, then just FORGET IT. The engine would be another underpowered NA one. By then 350z and Hyundai could be in the 350HP range.
Mazda HP issue = Go FI damn it. Supercharge or Turbo the present engine and you are getting 325HP to 400HP.

Are you seriously comparing Hyundai to Mazda? Last I checked, Hyundai was the exact opposite. Mazda is fun, affordable "drivers'" cars and innovative engine technology. Hyundai is the rip-off artist of the automotive world that wouldn't know what originality was if it was stuck up their nether regions.
Give the 16x time to mature into a reliable engine.

Power!!
Speculation backed up by nothing. Try not to state your conjecture as if it were a fact. It's not.
On straight displacement increase with no efficiency gain the 16X will have 285bhp. Obviously there is more to come with direct injection and trochoid proportion changes that Mazda has been touting. A 10% efficiency gain would get us to 310bhp. Which should be easily done with DI.

in addition HP gains are meaningless if you cannot keep the same MPG as the current renesis. Yes yes the public cries for power but 14mpg will not sell as well. I'd rather have 270 with the current mpg then 310 with 14 or lower mpg.

I personally would have it the other way IF there wasn't a guzzling gas tax if it were 14 mpg or lower. Wait, would our current MPG get a guzzling tax? We can't be consuming less than a HEMI in the new Challenger.
Also, again, as most board members know, FI would create even more of an emissions problem. You want the car imported or not?

Hahhhhh....I guess I heard the truth. There is a certain corparation that holds the patent to direct injection on Rotary engines....and it isn't Mazda. That could explain what I have heard.
This may be common knowledge to you guys but I was just told a few months ago who holds the patent to that technology....and maybe someone is waiting for the patent to run out. Until 2011 maybe?

'70s Audi NSU EA 871 direct injection!
Also, the patents for direct injection expired long years ago.
