16x Delay
I truly hope Mazda has a cat in the works that can take the heat without the 16X having to have a munged AFR under cruise conditions.
hopefully i can spark the 16x convo again.. what would be so wrong with having a 7th gear or maybe one of those overdrive buttons they used to have on automatic transmissions , get on the freeway doing 100km/h or 60mph hit the overdrive button and ur cruising at 2000rpm and not 3500rpm like mine does. but only functional after a certain speed, now put that on a 16x since the displacement is bigger and can probbaly support it.. when i go around 35mph i can put it 6th gear and im around 1800 rpm and i can still make it up a hill very very slowly..
I hope it takes more than that to determine scraping the 16X entirely since the REW probably had more warranty claims then both series renesis...it would mean the end of rotary powered mazdas at least for a long time and that would suck *****!!!reciprocating ones at that!!!
13B-REW = Mazda economic disaster - excessive warranty claims, very small sales, poor reliability of OE turbo system
Mazda sits back and thinks... hmmm.... maybe we try going NA and pop some back seats in?
13B-MSP S1 = Mazda economic screwfest - lots of prematurely dead engines due to inadequate oiling
Mazda sits back and thinks... hmmm... well the NA thing almost worked from an economic feasibility perspective, except for that whole oiling fiasco... let's try:
13B-MSP S2 = Ta da! Improved oil metering
Mazda sits back and thinks... hmm... well we're moving closer to a rotary that we could actually produce for profit in the real world... on the other hand, gas isn't getting any cheaper, and emissions standards aren't getting any lower... not too of our strong suits...
Let's see if we take another screwing on S2 warranty claims before we decide if we're going to press on with this thing!
Although there were a lot of problems with the FD, FD warranty claims were less than you think (besides anything related to the 93 model recall). It was only a 3 year 50 thousand mile warranty http://www.edmunds.com/used/1993/maz...arranties.html . The FD stopped being imported in '96 because it couldn't meet then-new Tier I emissions standards (http://www.dieselnet.com/standards/us/ld.php) and because sales dropped like a rock. The FD still stayed in production for 10 years even though it wasn't a very profitable car.
The FD was an expensive car in part because of exchange rates in the mid 90s, especially when the yen peaked in strength in 1996. All the Japanese supercars went up significantly in price as the 90s went on.

A buddy of mine who is an automotive journalist was talking to the CEO of Mazda (Canada) and I asked him to inquire about the fate of the rotary engine... Mazda's CEO's response:
"If you like it, hold on to it"
He couldn't disclose any more information but that does not seem like good news for the Rotary engine...

To be honest, that answer doesnt mean anything. The answer act as a doube edged sword where it can either hint a future rotary car or terminating the future rotary car. As a CEO, he will not want to be liable for disclosing such highly sensitve information to the public until he is authorized to do so.
