well, unless you can stop a car going 270km/h in a matter of seconds, then the car in front of you better be out of the way (otherwise you know what happens)... and most people are not paying attention to their rear view mirror. So, you know what I meant in my original post

going up the hill the car is pegged im sure and its accelerating very slow at 230kph. which is 142mph and in the capability of the rx8. 150mph is possible with a stock engine on a flat road. on a long downhill straight im sure one could easily add 10mph.
the only reason he got up to 265kph (gps) was gravity assistance.

Stuck in a love triangle
I don't think I ever took mine to 150....maybe the 140s or so, but that was back when the car was only 2 years old or so and still had a warranty.
All I remember is that it took forever to get the 8 that high, and the car felt like it did not like travelling at that speed.

How long is that straight? It looks like he's going ~250km/h for the last minute without really turning much at all. I also got a kick out of the white knuckle passing near the begininning

Regardless of the details, this is a cool video to watch!
Yes a stock rx8 can go 167mph CLEARLY GOING DOWNHILL. a grade up or down makes a HUGE difference. Notice how he was not getting past about 235kph before the crest of the hill?
I know i am a huge Debbie Downer lol, I just dont want to see *confused* people (to be nice about it) see this and start generalizing by saying "see, my rx8 goes 170mph!" All top speed figures for cars are made on level ground. It's been demonstrated a number of times that the max for the 6-speed in stock form is approx 148-150mph, which is fast enough for a car without any real aero, methinks.
On a related note, I read a nice review of a ferrari f430 once, and the driver described how above 120mph the car got more and more stable due to the aero.....I would love to drive a nice car with some actual aero effects at those speeds, just to see what that feels like...

at 230 he is accelerating uphill, the camera zooms in when he hits 265 so cannot tell, but it looks like a slope down, but when the camera pans back he is climbing slightly at 245....
this is a series 1 car.

I was on I-10 towards El Paso (speed limit is 80MPH I believe), no wind, car felt perfect, like I was going 80. I do not recommend it however, on any other road it would be a very bad idea. They have a Rally here in Texas and you can do it legally by top speed class.

The stability of the car is amazing at those speeds.
Contrary to the laws, it is not uncommon to find a vehicle traveling well over 100 mph in rural parts of Texas, New Mexico, or Colorado from what I've experienced.

144mph at 4am on way to work. 93 North just south of Boston in Milton in the "Valley". Real smooth over 130 I thought. Had to slow down for turn and exit though.

Yes we do have speed limits. Not all the roads are open and straight. But some of us do know where to go to do things on the freeway you're not supposed to.
