Whistling noise under the hood

hi guys and gals,

I searched and found several threads concerning this, and was wondering if anyone found what's causing this noise or fixed the problem.

I recently started noticing it between 2000 and 4000 rpm under load and accleration. I dont hear it when idle.
Some people said it's normal but I dont know why it's making this noise now and not when i bought it new. I have about 3000miles on my car.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Lol, swoope

How did you dig up that old thread?
That noise was what evenyone said was throw out bearing noise or something like that. I hear it all the time and gotten used to it. It goes away when I push clutch in.

This sound is different. More high pitched and I only hear it when accelerating, between 2000 and 4000r rpm and car's all warmed up. No loss of power or anything. It just is little annoying. Maybe something's up with my intake?
I remember reading people were gonna take their car to the dealer but haven't found them posting outcomes.

Any help? Should I have my dealer take look at it at least?

Thanks

reasearch!

mine does it every now and then.. but i have a revi and duct, and i traced the noise to inside the intake.

if you can get the dealer to hear it that is the first step.

MTOL - 4471 Dealer Repair Information

Some customers may complain of a high-pitched whine or squeal noise from
the engine at an idle. The noise can be eliminated by raising the engine
RPM slightly above idle. This is most likely caused by the primary port
jet air nozzles and / or the metering oil pump air ports. The jet air
nozzles are located in the primary port of each rotor. The jet air flow
is acheived by using air flow from an area prior to the throttle plate.
The metering oil injection nozzles also use this airflow prior to the
throttle plate to assist oil flow into the engine.
This creates a metered vacuum leak into the engine and may cause a high
pitched whine at idle.

This noise is considered to be a normal characteristic of the RENESIS
rotary engine. Use the procedure outlined in the repair instructions
to confirm noise is from the jet air or metering oil pump nozzles.

1.Confirm noise.
2.Remove engine cover.
3.Locate both air supply hoses for jet air nozzles and metering oil pump
nozzles. Hoses are attached to the air duct located between the MAF
and throttle body. Disregard hose that attaches to the oil filler tube
4.Confirm noise is caused by jet air or metering oil pump nozzles by
temporarily pinching off air supply hoses using pliers.
5.No repairs should be attempted if noise is reduced or eliminated.

Hey Zoom, I dont hear this noise when engine's at idle or when I rev while my car's parked.
Only when accelerating and under load. My car's stock and the noise is barely noticeable. More pronounced if the sound bounce back from center dividers and such.

I got a good dealer here in Olympia so I might take my car there to see if they can come up with any answers.

i did read that bladerunner- but you might want to try the steps in the service tip to isolate the noise and make sure its not coming from the jet ports. that olympia dealer seems to be getting more and more and more business from 8 owners.

side note to jeremy b - imagine that?! if you give good service you get more business and less complaints.

Do many of you hear this whistle? Just curious. I only wanna hear rotary and no other noise :P

I dont know if it's a problem or gonna be one so I might as well check with the dealer.

Anyways, thanks everyone for inputs and tips from zoom.
