Sorry for the thread revival, this seems to be the more detailed Shinka thread so I put this here

I hate to be the bearer of bad news (and frankly, I'm surprised that no one else has noticed this) but:
-I can account for over 2,800+ shinka's. a total production of only 2,150 cannot be correct?
-I also know of multiple 2005 model Shinka's that are not cherry red!

I was trying to find some other basic info about shinka's, an stumbled across various posts and other sites etc, and the figures don't add up. Look at the 2006 production list posted above. It has a total of 1500 shinka's, and also there is a mazda USA 2005 production list that accounts for 1357.
On top of those two lists should be the 2005 UKDM AUDM and JDM shinka's!

Thoughts??

The first Shinka model – the 1,357 '05s you mentioned – were all Black Cherry Mica, and the only Shinkas made that year. In 2006 the second Shinka appeared in Copper Red.

At least that's the case here in the US.

Actually, in 2005 you are correct; ALL 1357 Individually numbered (with a unique numberplate in the engine compartment) shinkas were Black Cherry Mica.

for 2006 Shinka became a trim level available in Copper Red, Whitewater Pearl Mica, and Galaxy Grey (think also in black, but not sure) those were no longer a "individually numbered, limited production run" but had a unique interior color (both upholstery and interior trim), upgraded suspension and badging (an applique on the door pillar)

For 2007 the Shinka trim level became the "40 Anniversary edition" trim level, still not individually numbered, but only available in Metropolitan Grey, again with particular upholstery and badging on the fenders, their engine cover trim was uniquely painted as well.

What about all the 2005 shinka's in the UK, Japan, and in Australia? I have worked on 3 2005 Titanium Grey shinka's.

Do they have the same features (tan interior, etc.) of the American version, just not necessarily Black Cherry?

Just got one come in the shop I work in. . . . but

The dealer they brought it in from messed it up by doing a mickey mouse with the head gasket. It has oil mixed with water and water with gas. (Has a gas pump issue)

In the UK and Japan the models were called 'Evolve' rather than Shinka.

The name Shinka had to be used in the US as Mitsubishi owned/patented/copyrighted/whatever legal bumf the name 'Evolution' on cars - therefore Mazda chose to use the Japanese for Evolve instead = Shinka.

Black Cherry or Radiant Ebony as called in Japan, wasn't a UK colour at all, we got Copper Red and Phantom Blue, plus special editions 'nemesis', 'Kuro' (metalic Black), plus Anniversary models and the 2006/07 Prodrive PZ models.

However I'm lucky enough to have a JDM import Evlove in Black Cherry in the UK and only know of 1 other in England. Schweet

We have a gov't site that shows 'how many left' on the road there are of any type of car.

Don't forget that a used car dealer familiar with RX-8s is likely to declare any 8 on their lot to be a Shinka.

^ And every dealer selling a 2005 that gets the vehicle information from the VIN only, since all 2005s are listed as "Base/Shinka", since those are the only two trim levels identified through VIN, and the display doesn't indicate that it means "one or the other", or that the Touring or Grand Touring were option packages that have to be identified.

the real Shinka

Hate to inform this but a real Shinka is almost impossible to find. And they didn't just make them in 05. They did make a few after that that were special order and didn't have all the Shinka trim or a 40th anniversary trim package. I have sitting here in my garage an 08 40th aniversary 2.0 tri rotor turbo Shinka in metropolitan grey. The only one I've ever seen stateside not saying there aren't more but according to mazda they were special order only in a right hand drive over seas. This one was Converted and the total price of the car was just over 62,000 I've dealt with rotsries for years have built several in fact am working on a turbo 787b right now to put in an 05 Shinka.

This is the actual right hand drive shinka that production numbers were limited to special orders only so there are only a handful. This is also the original shinka concpet but unless you have contacts at mazda japan you arent able to find any info on. Ill try and find the window sticker and book for proof. Ive got them around here somewhere. <br/>
