Wikipedia is your friend here. The 05 Shinka was a special edition model, while the 06 was a trim level. Both had firmer suspension, I believe, and various cosmetic changes.

the Shinka was limited to only a handfull of colors and units, had upgraded Bilstein struts, foam filled engine crossmember, special wheels, and alcantara seats. there may be more details but thats what i can remember off the top of my head.

Only 1500 Shinka's made for 06, I have #498. The best difference is the piano black trim along the center console. Much better than the standard aluminum. NADA lists the 06 GT at $1k less than same miles and condition as the "Shinka"

On the 05 model i believe all came in Black Cherry Mica with tan leather. Tail lights are different, finish on rims is a little different. Standard appearance package, 6cd stereo, as said above it has the foam filled crossmember, upgraded shocks, polyurethane bushings, piano black interior. Its essentially a luxury oriented model with slightly better handling.

I'm not sure what changed in 06 tho

The reason is that you're paying a premium for a package that will not result with increased resale value. As a result, you will end up losing more when you sell it.

I paid "Under" invoice.

so Im good ?

Shinka is pretty much a GT with few points of different including certain body parts has re-inforced, a bit bigger rear shock, shinny HVAC controls, the Shinka B-Pillar ...

I know some people might pay MSRP ... feel sorry for them

In 2006, the Shinka is still consider a different line per the black book. So 2005-2006 can carry a premium, 2007 shouldn't by much

yep - when i registered my 06 the state of MN recognized the shinka as slightly higher value from black book (to be sure they were going to get the appropriate tax money of course)

shinka package cars will definitely depreciate faster, initially, than non-shinkas because they start with more value to lose, but most of that increased depreciation is [unfortunately] swallowed by the first owner (though no RX8 has ever been known for holding its value). if you were to buy a shinka used it would still get a small premium over a similarly equipped / condition non-shinka (GT i presume).

How did you determine the build number? Is it in the VIN? I found the 2005 list but not the VIN list for 2006.

Disregard, future searching and I found the answer....

Thanks,
Joe

There is no difference in the tailights.

The '05 (special edition) Shinka has black cherry mica paint, parchment (beige) leather interior, front tower strut, Tokico (Hitachi) suspension with urethane filled cross members. It also came with Sirius, HID headlights, fog lights, and slightly darker rims.

The '06 (trim level) Shinka had three unique colors (Pearl White, Copper Red and Galaxy Grey) and somewhat similar trim goodies.

Basically they're GT's with these add'l items.

Unexpectedly under-informed response.
