Had this car since I bought it used with 14k miles on it in 2006, and it's never had its coils and plugs replaced. I'm now at just shy of 60k miles. I asked my dealer the last time I went in when I should start thinking about replacing them, and he said that I should just wait until something actually fails...i.e., inconsistent throttle response. I'm pretty well versed in how this car works, but don't have a lot of technical know-how regarding maintenance. From reading other members' posts, I was under the impression that people take preventative measures with their coils and plugs and replace them every 30-40k miles.

Bottom line: should I just replace my coils and plugs at my next oil change just to be safe, or should I wait until my car actually starts exhibiting problems? Not looking for a long explanation, just quick advice. Thanks!

 

I would change them now. They are supposed to be done at 30k miles anyway. Why wait for something to fail?

 

The maintenance schedule calls for replacing plugs at 35,000 miles, so you're way overdue on that. Nice to know your car is still running well. I replaced mine at 33,000 because I had a set, and the dealer put them in at no charge while I was getting all the fluids changed.

There's no specified scheduled for changing coils. You need to read through what folks here say and decide yourself.

Speaking of fluids (which I just did) if you have not replaced the gearbox and rear end oil and the brake fluid, you're overdue on those.

Replace the coils now and get some high quality leads when you do as the new coils will last longer with good leads on them .....

 

I plan on going all out when I hit 30k miles. Plugs, Wires, Coils, Oil, Coolant, Tranny, rear end...

Whew.

Oh yeah, as everybody else says, do it now lol. Preventative maintenance is better than Reactive maintenance, in my eyes.
